Yesterday I watched a movie by Van Damme where his brother's wife told her daughter that he is her uncle...

I am african and according to our tradiction, I am an uncle to my syster's kid (s) and not my brother's... so to my brother's I am still a father to them (kids).

What's your suggestion on it?

Tchao!

Hey cool down man... I know your problem.

Actually in India also the word Uncle is used only for Sisters kids not the brothers kids.

In English Uncle is equalent to a word Mama in India in many languages.

Like wise What do you mean dad is like

Small father (if you are younger to father of the kid) or Big father (if you are elder to the father of kid) right ?

In that case in English and western countries there is no small or big fathers only Uncle for all relations inside the family.

In India or in Tamil speaking community we have

small father = Chittappa
Big Father = Periyappa

Father = Appa

These small and big fathers tradition is not to own brothers wifes, instead used to show the affection towards the brothers children. We normally treat brothers children as our children in all aspect. So it eleminates the poor family children from any issue.

Hope this explains what the Africans and Indians call Father. If you see your own Bible many places God is refered as Father that doesn't mean God shares bed with anybody.

Ravi without knowing where you are from its hard to answer because each country has different rules. I think the main points to consider are: 1) do you love each other enough to go through all the future problems that are you going to have when you make your issue public to your families. 2)Are you prepared to leave you family behind and start a fresh life with each other if your families don't accept. 3) are you willing to have and support the possibility of an abnormal child with birth defect (may not occur but still 4–6% chance) i think coming on here you will get gut reactions of what people are taught as being right and wrong by our own teachings, that does not mean they are right or that they are wrong. in the end its your move and if you feel that your love is pure and you are sure you can handle the difficult side of a decision like this, then i think there is nothing to stop you. my advice if you serious , when you ready you can travel to a country where it is legal and get married, by law your marriage is legitimate and has to be recognised by other countries. good luck and i wish you all the best in your hard journey. In the end its your choice and your happiness. Bhabhi ke mera ram ram :)

If your brothers or sisters have children you are classed as their uncle. It doesn't matter if its the brother or sister that has them you are still classed as their Uncle, The only time you will be anything other than an Uncle is if you have your own children and then your role will become that of Father.

Hope that clears things up for u

Biologically, any offspring can have only one father and one mother. The offsprings of ur siblings r either nieces or nephews.

In African tradition the term father is synonymous to uncle and in such case is nothing more than a sign of respect just like in the catholic church u have fathers. Its is merely a mode of expression and should not be any source of confusion.

This is only known in South India, maybe Tamil Nadu.
In Nothern Indians it is Cha Cha (younger uncle) Or Taya (elder uncle) and for mother's brother it is always Mama

Good LUck

Its just a name. You are a loving family member and thats all that counts. But if you do need a name for yourself, then it is 'Uncle' unless of course you truely the biological father which by the sounds of question does not sound like it. Cheers :)
