a clean break is sometimes the best break. but if you want to continue being friends let them know that there is no chance of rekindeling the relationship.

If you cut contact and they realize they have feelings for you it could be that they're just lonely. Now a break on the other hand would be for the purpose of finding out if you really want to be with each other. Otherwise if you cut off your ex and you have to go through all that just to find out if they want you then maybe you should be looking for someone that wants you will there still with you. It shows that they don't take you for granted.

Well if you keep in contact with them, they might think that you will always be there for them and so they really don't have time to miss you...However if you cut off contact with them, they will have time to realize their feelings for you...This can also work against you because they are used to you and they might jump the gun and miss you and want you back, but the feelings are only because they are used to you. They may try to work things out only to realize that it's not really what they wanted at all. So it's really kind of up in the air.
When me and my ex broke up, I stayed in contact with him for awhile and he never tried anything...then I stopped calling him and next thing you know, he wanted me back...when we started dating again, he suddenly remembered he didn't want a relationship and I got hurt again.

Without contact if they did have feelings for you those feelings may go away- it could work the other way around if you are atleast keeping in touch.

Let's face it, we can't control others. We can wish how they might react but we can't control them. What we can control is how we feel about ourselves. So try to honor yourself, recognize what a great and wonderful person you are. Celebrate your own greatness. Then act. If your friend responds the way you would like, great. If not, then you still have yourself as the greatest person you know. You really are the most important person in your life. Learn to love yourself, to accept yourself as honest and true. Then you can accept others as they are without trying to change them or anticipate how they will act/react. Also, learn to accept others, they are doing the best they can.

Sometimes when couples break up a person can think that they have feelings for the other person that they did not know that they had. It is most often from being lonely, afraid of being without someone again or simply adjusting to being without that other person. If you love someone you should not have to spend time without them to realize it.

If they want to contact you, they will contact you. Move forward and get on with your life. If it was meant to be, they'll be back. In most cases, it's not meant to be, and people just move on. If they really care about you, they don't need "reminders" from you; they will contact you on their own.
