I was talking with someone, and we got into talking about what this phrase really means. So I am looking for some input.

I say it when I want the blessings of the Lord to follow the person to whom I said it. Blessings are anything that would benefit that person.We may not know sometimes what they need, but God does.I want God to bless them in a way that I cannot.I am wishing well for them. May God Bless

My generation considers it a pray for a persons soul and physical body. May God bless you means that one is asking God to protect and care for another individual.

God Bless You mean God cover you with His love, and compassion and hug you in His heart, so no evil could reach you.

Don;t sure? That's why we put a word 'may' in front of that phrase.
May God Bless You.

It is rather an over used phrase. It basically means that we hope that God takes good care of the person we say it to.

It is a wish and a hope for the person we say it to.

Blessing = to make holy

To make holy (sanctify) = to set aside for a special purpose

When I say "God Bless you" = "May the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob set YOU aside for something special"

Back then if you sneezed, it meant you were sick and might be dying so people would look at you and say "May god bless you" and if no one was around to say that you were to get down on your knees and yell "May god have mercy on my soul!!!"

I just avoid the phrase. I much prefer saying Gesundheit which means to wish good health.

Overall, I just say nothing. It's kind of pointless.

It is a positive vibration being sent in your direction with the hope and prayer that God will be gracious to you.
