Ok, just so you know, any dog can turn out lazy, energetic, mean, or affectionate. You don't know a dogs temperment until you own it and have it for a while. But I'd really consider the Smooth Fox Terrier because they do well in an apartment size home or a small yard. They also have fewer health problems than the bully breeds and there temperment (aggressiveness) is more calm. However any dog can bite, etc.
Remember this when choosing, a good dog is trained dog.
If you want to research the breeds you listed, i have a really good site that will help you find the orgin, temperment, description, life expectancy, grooming, excercise, health problems, and size and weight. It will help you compare and contrast the different breeds.

well, out of those, I would say the bulldog. Despite the Aggressive reputation of bulldogs. many I've met are very affectionate pets. When you starve them and chain them in the yard, they become violent. do that to a lab (notoriously loving dog) and you'll probalby get the same behavior.

If you want affectionate and play all the time, You probalby want a lab. I know it's not on your list, but those dogs aren't the nicest by reputation. As I said, that' depends on how you treat the dog, but the most affectionate and playful dongs I've known (you feed a bulldog well and it will be a loyal lapdog...) Your best bet on the criteria you described is a Mutt, preferably with Jack Russel and Lab. Mutts are also typically less prone to genetic disorders then purebreds, and you can pick them up for free at the shelter. Basically, everybody wins. (except for the cat... A cat will not stand an intrusion into their house by a dog... learned that the hard way)

but yeah, you want a mutt. jack russels and Labs are both friendly, so look for evidence of either one in the pet you're looking at.

Bulldogs have loads of health problems, some related to their pushed in snouts, and others due to the extreme amount of inbreeding done on them. They are prone to skin infections, allergies, ear problems, eye problems, and obesity.

Bull Terriers I'm not too familiar with, the few I've known have been a bit obsessive-compulsive and high strung. People also have a tendency to be quite scared of them and mistake them for Pits or pit mixes. Not sure if that will be an issue with you? Smooth Fox Terriers can also be quite hyper, they can be yippy and nippy as well. Probably not as many health problems in them as in Bulldogs.

You might want to research terriers as a group... they can have some quirks due to their original purpose for being bred - vermin dogs... kill small animals for "sport". You won't be able to safely have cats or other small animals with them.

Remember, these are generalizations... there will be exceptions to all of my statements in every breed. These are just the things I know about the breeds from personal experience with them and doing lots of breed research for my own puppy searches.

I have heard Miniature Bull Terriers have exceptionally bad temperaments, far worse than the standard size. I'd say don't get any kind of dog you know nothing about. Picking a dog on looks does not result in the best pet for you.

You have to study greater than that to opt for a breed. Any puppy from a reliable breeder can reside an extended and healthful existence (despite the fact that Great Danes are identified for by and large loss of life more youthful than such a lot breeds). And nicest may be very indistinct. You have to be a bit of extra precise. Research every breed entirely after which discover a reliable breeder to shop for from.

the smooth fox terrier would probably be the most hyper and loving, if that's what your looking for in a dog. i wouldn't suggest getting a bulldog until you research them first because they can be somewhat lazy and can have health problems due to the way their snout is smushed in

I know this isn't on you list, but I have found a Boxer makes a very playful and loving friend. And, you still get the face of a bulldog!!

Golden Retrievers are good affectionate, loyal and also playful companions as well as labradors. When choosing for puppies take a while looking at them if you want a playful dog dont pick the quiet shy one in the corner.

Choose wisely and good luck (Sorry i wasn't one of your breeds because i've heard of them as quite aggressive.)
