My cousin just switched from concerta to adderall for her ADHD, she is on 30 mg of adderall XR and sees a little change and told me her freind lost alot of weight, of course that isnt the reason she went on it but will she lose weight from adderall and what are other possible side effects. We've read all listed on the bottle but surely there are different with every person and more.

I have 2 children on Aderall XR 20mg.
My oldest son had tics which the Dr. said was not a side effect of the Aderall but rather a symptom of ADHD in one out of every 10 children with ADHD. However upon researching this myself I realized that it seemed to happen more with children on Aderall than other ADHD drugs. Aderall works the best for my family however because it is a drug that you can stop and start back up again and many of them are not. For instance I don't have to give it to them on the weekend or winter/summer break if they're not in a structured environment. The Doctor did suggest that the one with tics take Fish oil to diminish the tics and see if that worked. No more tics. He was on 25mg last year when he had the tics and now is working his way down as we feel he's starting to grow out of it. I hope this has been helpful. My youngest son has had no side effects from the drug. You are right I believe every chemical effects each of us as individuals differently in our unique design.

A common side-effect of Adderall is a decreased appetite which can lead to weight loss. Though Concerta also has this side-effect, I have tended to hear that the effect is more pronounced with Adderall.

I personally also switched from Concerta to Adderall because Concerta was only working for me in very high doses. I noticed very few side effects with concerta.

Adderall for me is a much more pronounced difference on a low dosage. It does make me really not crave food at all though. I can feel that my stomach is empty, yet I won't feel like eating. The eating/not eating makes my stomach a bit upset and it gurgles pretty loudly lol. Also, keep in mind that Adderall uses an amphetamine, which is similar to the street drug speed. So, it'll probably also increase metabolism.

The only other side effect I've noticed is bruxism - jaw clenching which can lead to very bad tooth pain. Not too much of a big deal once I've become more aware of it, though. I haven't noticed any side effects that were not already listed with my prescription info or listed online, so they are fairly accurate, so if she sticks to that she should be fine. She should just make sure to note changes in her body, because something may seem like it's out of the blue, but it's really in response to the Adderall, so she should check each symptom out thoroughly.

The same exact thing I went through. I was changed from concerta to adderall for my ADD. I liked it better because my appetite was better and I slept a lot better as well. The effects of it also wear out sooner then the concerta did so I was able to relax in the evening. When I was off of it in the summer I did gain weight and have kept it on but not much, just normal for an adolescent. When I started back up on it my appetite did decrease but it went back to normal after about 1 month.

Adderall is a good medication, but it does have some serious problems, weight loss among them just like any other stimulant medication. After some length of time on either concerta or Adderall the body adjusts and one develops an appetite. On a more serious note, any stimulant medication can increase feelings of aggression in children, if child is having impulse control issues in addition to ADHD this could be a problematic combination

I asked my doctor about it b/c I heard a lot of young people without ADHD are trying it b/c they get energy and lose weight. He just said it's "speed" and bad for you. It seems to have to opposite effect than desired in healthy people.
Low blood pressure & dizziness are some side effects.
