call area and state (usually they are in the cities) cancer hospitals and cancer centers. ask them what other groups help. there are some.

church-contact area churches (all of them, start a list of all county churches) and start ask if its ok to hold fund raisers. find out who has food banks and get on the list. this will help with expenses and free up money to be used elsewhere.

call your county health dept and social services to find out what is available in your area. ask them to point you in the right direction to agencies or orgs.

open the phone book and call cancer doctors offices; they usually know of groups or foundations that help. also look under cancer for support groups, they will know the in's and out's of help too.

they will know where to find help with utilties, etc.

contact all area business's and ask if they would allow you to post fundraiser flyers, donation cans, etc.

call/contact these links below, they have info there. i also included a couple that will help with household things, etc.

i wish i could help you more...we need to find a cure, and they are pretty close, so chin up :)

Did you contact St. Jude's? They may be able to help. Or there are many charities that help when children have a serious or terminal illness. Ask your child's oncologist. Sometimes even the hospital itself has fund for this purpose. Talk to the hospital to find out your options. Also try to see if your local newspaper or news station will do a story on your situation. Alot of times people are willing to help out, you just need a little publicity. They can write a story and solicit donations from the general public. They do it all the time where I live and the response is usually overwhelming. You and your child are both in my prayers. I really do hope for the best. God bless.

You can begin by contacting a local newspaper and see if they will run a story. I would also contact the American Cancer Society and see what they can do to help you get started. In addition go to a local bank and ask if they will open a free account that people can contribute money to. People are more inclined to give if it doesn't go directly to an individual. There are some service clubs that may help as well--Kiwanis, Rotary, etc. They may not give money, but they may help with printing flyers, manning a table at a grocery store, etc. There are lost of people willing to help, but they need to know what they can do. You will get a lot of people that say they will be willing to help, but unless you say what it is you want them to do, they may do nothing. I wish you and your son the best.

There are many ways to start fundraising. Try to get the community involved or local church. Post some papers up and place some jars in stores. In my community we do this for someone in need. In the local stores you'll find a jar with a brief explanation about the family. Ask friends and family to bake some things for a bake sale, or bring items for a garage sale. A little goes a long way.

I worked at a restaurant a few years ago. They heard about someone in your same situation, so they did a fundraiser. They had a local beer distrub. donate kegs of beer, and then sold them and gave the profits to the family. All of us waitresses wore ribons, and there were little papers on each table telling what the fundraiser was for. We sold out all of the beer in 3 hours, Plus people who didnt drink even donated. At the end of the night, we all also donated all of our tips. It was incredible, and we raised 2000 on one night! I know you may not work as a waiter, but maybe you know somone who does, of has a connection. I hope you are doing ok. We will pray for you and your son. God bless you!

Don't try using the internet: too many scams and nobody will trust you.

Contacting your local media is your best bet - television, newspapers and radio may all do broadcasts on your behalf. The local community can be very supportive and generous, especially when it comes to children.

Ask your doctor's office and hospital if they know of any organizations able to assist you.

Our local quilt guild donates large auctionable quality quilts as fundraisers - raffle or auction. Check locally to find one in your area - they probably do the same.

Visit local stores to see if they can put up donation "buckets" for you but don't count on those - too easy and tempting at times for light-fingered employees or customers.

Is there a local motocycle group in your area? We belong to one and attend benefits all the time for medical bills, etc.All you have to do is contact them and I'm sure they would help or put you in touch with someone. Also, have you heard of St. Jude in Memphis, TN? They treat children with cancer for free. While you child is getting treatments, there's a home you can stay in called the Ronald McDonald House. Check into it if you don't have any other options. God bless you.

Also, don't bother with the American Cancer Society. When my son had cancer, they told me their main concern was research, nothing else. A lot of the time the hospital, can also put you in touch with people too.

I am so very sorry for your loss. I too have lost people in my life but i couldn't imagine the pain you feel when you think about your son. You might like trying to talk to someone about how your feeling. It helps a lot, i know from experience. Try to do what you need to do in order to find closure and remember, your little boy will always love you and he's waiting for you in whatever place your faith says he's in. Peace be with you

Go to your church. They may be open to doing a dinner with all the proceeds going to your child's treatment. What about setting up a silent auction? Bake sale?

I know a family in Texas that was about to get some really great things donated to a silent auction for their daughter's treatment.

Have you applied for SSI for you child? What about Medicaid? We have both and it has really helped with the expenses of my son's treatment and follow up care.
