I'm kind of a shy person and when I'm talking to someone I can't figure out what to say to them. When I'm alone with a person it's always quiet and I can't think of a thing to say. It's always awkward. Can anybody give me any tips on how to get a conversation started? I've searched Yahoo for convo starters but they are all corny like "If you were an animal, what would you be?" That's kind of a stupid question, in my opinion.

You can always start by asking the other person about what he is currently doing,or if he/she is intrested in movies, about politics, mutual friends or anything that comes to your mind.Be bold. All the best.

Ask her about her work, or school or whatever she does. Try to figure out what she's into and then pelt her with questions about it, and act interested in what she answers. If you know how to tease her without insulting her, I'm sure you'll be able to find something in what she says to have fun with her about. Remember, If you can make a woman laugh, you're doing real well.

I,m kinda the same, but try not to think about what to say too much. just say what comes into your head at the time, an observation or something that you did recently, or would like to do.
