My hubby took our conure outside with him to walk the dog. We clip his wings regularly, but he didnt realize that our birds wings weren't clipped short enough this time. Anyhow, the bird flew up and away. We can hear him from time to time squack somewhere in the park, but can't spot him. Do you have any advice or know of any tactics to entice him down, to us? He's so special to us, we don't know what to do. Any help would be appreciated. I dont know if you'll get this tonite, but I thought I'd give it a chance. Blessings.

We took our lovebird out in its cage, in hopes of our conure coming down to our lovebird. (they interact well with one another) and to no avail. We left the cage out with food, and are praying that God would bring him back to us. (Call us silly, but we love Gods creations; including animals) If he doesn't return, our prayer is that he will end up in good hands. A hard lesson to learn, but from experience comes wisdom. Sigh. Thanks for all your sweet comments though. Whisper a little prayer for us! If you're answering my question, most likely you're an animal lover too. Thank you guys! God bless you.

So the manager of our apartment complex said he saw our "Toby" in one of the bushes between two of the buildings in the complex. He wasn't able to inform us until two hours after he saw him. :( Pray that he is safe until morning tomorrow, and that we'll be able to find him then!! It's possible!! Theres hope!

A friend of mine went outside to give a phone to someone, she did not realize that the tiel was on her shoulder, her mother's most precious pet. The tiel flew away the mother lost all hope in a second and went to her room to grieve. If this ever happened to me I don't know what I would do, but my tiel has been with me for a long time, so I think no matter what time of year it is I would bring his cage outside and myself then would sit there talking as we, (me and my tiel did) until I had a feeling that he would not come back or did not know how to come back. I would be out there though, and hope I believe will make him fly to my shoulder and let me allow him to put him in his cage. It hurts to think about this, but no matter what kind of pet we have I believe they want to be with us no matter what.

My african grey got away two summer ago (sliding patio doors malfunctioned), Anyway, he didn't fly more than 3 blocks and was found 25 minutes after he "blew the joint". One respondent here wrote: "He hung around for about 30 minutes and then flew away. I know someone like you is looking for him, but what could we do". The answer is PLENTY could and should have been done: it may make the difference between getting your beloved pet back or NOT. It may make the difference between him being eaten by a bird of prey, sombody's pet rottweiler, etc. When I lost my guy I immediately contacted the SPCA: and so did the person who FOUND him. The gentleman was kind enough to bring the bird to the nearest pet hospital (veterinary practice). When this happens, staff at the vet office immediately contact the SPCA who in turn contacts the animal's owner. I picked up my grey at the vet's clinic.

You need to contact your local ASPCA and all the local pet shelters (especially bird shelters/pet parrotclubs, etc) you can find in your vicinity (get friends to do it ) whatever else you do at this moment YOU MUST TRY to keep that critter on your radar screen). Fortunately, the bird's not gotten far and you appear to live in a warm climate. I would keep his caged buddy close to where the frightened and confused bird is hiding. Bring the lost bird's favourite treats and when you are near your lost bird talk constantly, REMINDING him that you have his favourites. BRING A SLEEPING BAG FOR YOURSELF TOO!

Good Luck with That!

I have never had a bird, but I was sitting outside in my Mothers garden with her and my sisters at Thanksgiving and a big green/blue parrot of some kind just flew down and landed on my lap. I put my finger down to him and he hopped right on it. Then my sister stuck her finger over and he hopped on it and climbed up on her shoulder. I went in the house and got some grapes and some vegetables and he ate them right out of my hand. He hung around for about 30 minutes and then flew away. I know someone like you is looking for him, but what could we do. We had no place to put him and we could not let him fly around in the house because he might hurt himself. So anyway the point is that food might be the answer. He will get hungry and not know what to eat so maybe he will come back to his cage for food. Try his favorite treats. Good luck.

Hi, so sorry to hear you lost your bird a friend of mine lost hers but found it after 3days of searching everywhere. it sounds like your bird caught the wind as it was blown and glided with it, alot of people think when a parrot is clipped this stops it from exscaping but it doesnt exp if it gets outside it only needs a air current and it can glide along with the, its always good to take the other bird out when looking for your bird in the hope that one hears the other, also take its food dish with you, leave its cage out and stuff, if where your bird is theres alot of trees then it will stick round by there for a while rather than moving on, try handing out some leaflets put them in surronding areas, thru doors in shop windows, make sure you phone your local vets and let them know you've lost your bird, if you need more advive visit parrot link, they are always helping give advice to people who have lost in there parrot, good luck

Oh I am really so sorry.I also have lost my precious cockatiel.I was away for some time, due to my studies, while my male cockatiel was staying with my parents.Unfortunately he flew away one time that his cage was being cleaned. My female cockatiel was devastated,so my parents immediately went to buy a new cockatiel.I wasn't aware of that and imagine my shock when I finally came back and found a strange bird instead of my beloved male one.Fortunately enough now I have both my birdies in close watch.I will always remember my previous one though.

Last year I lost one of my love birds he flew out the door when my husband was leaving for work. We both skipped work and tried to entice him (Jazzy) back. He finally decided the woodpecker was a more inviting companion and flew away with it. We tried bringing our other bird out side and providing food but nothing would bring him back. We had tried whistle training him to come to us like the other bird we have but he wasn't interested. If your bird likes a particular sound (like the whistle or a bell) try using that sound to get him close and when he sees you after being away he may decide he'd like to visit you and you will get him back. Jazzy never was seen again and it got below freezing that night so we know he did not survive the night it was a hard thing to accept! :( Good luck and hopefully you will have success soon!

I am so, so sorry. I have a sun conure and I would miss her terribly if I lost her. If you can hear him squawking, I think that means he's looking for you. Call back to him and maybe as it gets to be bedtime, he'll come back. Mine always wants her happy hut about 8:00 at night. I hope it's warm where you are. Good luck to you. I wish I could come to your park and help you look. You're not in Kentucky, are you?
God bless your little bird. Please let us know when you find him!

Actions: 1. Find a beautiful female bird. 2. Put the female bird inside with one of her legs tied up with the cage. 3. Put favourite foods of your bird also inside the cage. 4. Develope some system so that the door of the cage shuts down as soon as your bird enters inside.

we have a pied cockotiel and he has flown away 5 times!!!
but luckily we have gotten him back safely all five times.
the last time he flew away, he perched high up in a pine tree. he stayed up there for like two hours my sister and i put his food bowl on the end of a very long stick and since he was hungry he clambered onto the food bowl an we caught him and brought him back home.
hope this gives you hope.
good luck on your bird hunting!!!

i know how you feel....my son just last week had my cockatiel and was showing her to his friend outside..she then flew away about a block away i went outside to see if i could get her back....but i could barely see her so i went back in and got her food bowl and started shakin it..because she is familiar with the sound of her food..well she wouldn't come so i walked away and as i did she flew closer to home..im guessing because she thought i was leavin her....so then my son and daughter went and found her callin her name, shakin the food bowl and putting out their fingers for the bird to fly onto..the bird finally came back...we are so happy to have her back..i thought i had lost her for good..but we didnt gve up and you shouldn't either so keep tryin ...and maybe do wat we did.i hope things go well and you get your bird back...best wishes
