IF you are 5'8" you should be considered by your BMI (body mass index)
Your BMI should be between 18.5-24.9
IF you weigh 160 would make your BMI 24.5
IF you weigh 125 would make your BMI 18
So stay inbetween 135 and 155 should keep you healthy.
As for being under 135, just remember that fat is stored on the body to help acclimate to the different climate changes in winter to keep a extra store of good fat to help insulate you as well as gives you body a source to feed on to help make more white blood cells when your sick.
But also remember the more weight over is more veins for you heart to pump blood to causing your heart to work harder which can cause damage and doesn't get enough Oxgenated blood to your other vital organs like the kidneys which causes Diabetes which is ususally in obest people.

The standard equation would be 145 lbs, but it depends on your frame size. What's perfect for you could be 130-160.
You'll know the right weight when you look in the mirror naked.

Body mass index (BMI) is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women.
Formula: weight (kg) / [height (m)]2
Calculation: [weight (kg) / height (m) / height (m)]
or
Formula: weight (lb) / [height (in)]2 x 703
Calculation: [weight (lb) / height (in) / height (in)] x 703
BMI Categories:
* Underweight = <18.5
* Normal weight = 18.5-24.9
* Overweight = 25-29.9
* Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater
focus on the normal BMI, so your weight should be around 127-171 pound or in other words, 57.8-77.8kg
you can calculate yourself.
exp: normal BMI x height (m) x height (m) = weight (kg)
or [normal BMI x height (in) x height (in) ] / 703 = weight (pound)
all the best. :)

Well ideal for one person may not be ideal for another person. It depends on your frame size and amount of muscle mass. For a large boned female with a lot of muscle, 160lb might be perfect and for a small boned female who doesn't exercise much, 130lb might be perfect. So probably somehere between 130lb and 160lb. HTH : )

My parents who are ER doctors explained it like this-
For a girl, start at 100lbs for 5 ft and add 5 lbs for every inch after that. So that'd make you 140lbs.
For a guy, start at 106 lbs and and add 6 lbs for every inch after that. So a guy your height would be 154 lbs.
