Quite homosexual.
Biblical scholars have widely and traditionally interpreted this as a very close but non-sexual relationship (cf. Issues in human sexuality, para. 2.17). However, a minority have argued that it was a sexual relationship (cf. Vasey 1995, Greenberg 1988), whilst acknowledging that "in neither case does the text mention a sexual aspect to the relationship" (Greenberg 1988, p.113).

I do not believe that David and Jonathan were gay considering the facts that the Bible says that they loved and obeyed the Lord and the Lord loved and rewarded them. To have a sexual relationship with a member of the same sex is against God's laws. This means that if David and Jonathan did have a homosexual relationship they would have been disobeying the Lord; and the Lord does not reward those you disobey him.
Of course this is what my copy of the Bible says and it was published at the turn of the century - a time during which many Christian-based countries (or countries in which the majority of the population is Christian) are debating "the homosexual issue."
The Bible has been changed, modified, published, and republished so many times over the century that what it really said has been lost and is up to personal interpretation.

I believe that to be quite possible. And I find nothing wrong with them being so close that they thought of each other as brothers the same as I see nothing wrong if it was something more intimate. It's amazing how the bible can be interpreted so many different ways, yet only the more hateful ways are usually thought to be truly from God. He couldn't possibly want us all to be happy, loved and in love people. We would rather think that His Supernatural self has some more human need to test us with homosexuality. That he would have any need whatsoever to make some of us suffer and others not.
And as for having wives - what does that have to do with anything?

and it was no big deal. No condemnation, no punishment. There are at least 4 places in the Bible where homosexuality is aluded to, and it was no big deal.
Bubba preachers hang their hat on a blatantly (non accidental) corrupted verse in Leviticus.
The original verse was:
V’et zachar lo tishkav mishk’vey eeshah toeyvah hee."
(Leviticus 18:22)
God was not condemning Homosexuality. He was condemning disharmony between a man and his wife.
Religious empires have corrupted the original text. Why? They wanted to grow their particular empire by the use of propogation; encouraging large families, so that the children would become members of their empires. Homosexuals do not propogate, so, the greedy corrupters of God's word, re-wrote the verse.
to read that all homosexuality is wrong.
Their interpretation violates the theme of God, the theme of Jesus, and the overall theme of the Bible.
And just what is that theme?
Harmony is harmony.
Disharmony is the most common form of sin against God.
Go figure.
PPS: I am not a homosexual. In fact, the act is repulsive to me. But, I imagine hetero-sexual activity may be repulsive to some homosexuals. I am also repulsed by people wearing their baseball caps backwards.
But, the most repulsive thing I know, is Bubba Preachers teaching hatred against anyone who is left-handed. Why do they do that? Is it because most of their membership is right-handed?
Just kidding, of course. (about left-handers)
But I am sure you get the point.
.Final Post Script:
These homo-phobians are right! It didn't say that David inhaled.
(It doesn't sound like friendship to me, to get naked with someone and play with each other's tally-whacker.)
Dear hom-phobians: Please do not send me an English vesion of the Bible and call it an "original" text.

first off, i think you are ADDING to the Bible and that is not a GOOD THING okay? David and Jonathan were NOT gay! kissing each other was a "greeting" or "good-bye-ing" at the time. it does NOT say that they had sex. Jonathan took of his robe and gave it to David b/c he was honoring David. Jonathan knew that God had chosen David to be king. so there. that's all i can tell u as only a student of the Highest! i hope i helped and hopefully u will understand what i said. GOD LOVES YOU!!!! so don't add to His words. i love ya and pray that God blesses you!God bless!

this love is the love of a brother. more like family. remember back then the love of a woman was greater becasue they were more dependent on the man. A women would have done anything for her husband. this verse is refering to jonathan's loyalty.

It was not gay. They considered each other brothers. They were close. Also, David was not gay because he had wives.
