I work with this Mexican guy. He is very sweet and charming and around my age. He moved here only a year ago and so is still adjusting to the American culture. He is very touchy feely and will always grab, pinch or poke my sides, back and shoulders. He will even grab my legs when he bends down to get something. He will tell me that I am "bonita" and "sexy" and he says I am his best "amiga" in America. I feel comfortable around him despite his behavior, probably because I am so attracted to him. Of course I don't plan on acting on it because of our language barrier even though I do speak a good deal of Spanish. I also am saving myself for marriage, so no sexual relationship would be my intention anyways. Does anyone know why he acts this way and is this platonic behavior or is he just really touchy feely and that's normal behavior in Mexico??

Sadly thats most latin men, Im Puerto Rican and I also notice that Mexicans tend to be "fresh" in a gross way. I even had to slap one on one occasion. Be firm let him now this behavior isnt acceptable ESPECIALLY AT WORK its called sexual harrassment.

Wow, deja vu! It isn't typical Mexican behavior, but it's typical for a guy to act like that if he likes you. Or he could just be very flirtatious (a lot of Mexican guys are). I worked with a sweet and charming Mexican guy, but he wasn't very touchy feely. Anyway, I liked him, but said I would never date him because of the language barrier. Well now he's my boyfriend (of 6 months) and I couldn't be happier. He's a wonderful guy. So don't rule out the idea completely.

I've read all the responses so far and I still don't know what to think. However, in general, it is overstepping American cultural boundaries for a man to touch a woman like that, especially at work. You might like to think about creating some boundaries. And do find out the real answer to this question, even if you have to ask someone you know personally.

Well, I myself am half Mexican and depending on the way he was raised in Mexico this could be normal behavior for him. Some Mexican men are brought up to respect women and others are brought up to have sex with as many as they can while their young, then finally settle down with one nearly half their age when their older, much older. Which is normal in Mexico.

hmmm im not sure, i have 3 mexican friends and they treat me very respectfully...they hug and kiss me on the cheek to ay hello and goodbye, but thats about it. I think if they saw a guy doing that to me they would probably get mad because i know they would think that wasnt acceptable behaviour. But i guess all guys are different right, so it depends on what youre comfortable with. If you dont want him to do it, tell him to stop

I have studied different cultures and it is normal behavior. Physical affection is considered normal behavior with friends and family, even aquantences. It's not meant to be insulting but if it does bother you just explain that it makes you uncomfortable.
BTW, its not an unfortunate behavior like the last gal answered, it's quiet enjoyable to be relaxed and affectionate with others.

You probably make it obvious you are attracted to him, so its like encouraging him. Its not anything you say, it could be non-verbal, us men know when a girl likes us.
This is not 'normal' anywhere, but Latinos are more daring and forward with women they like, especially if they know the girl likes him back. In Brasil for example, its quite normal to stroke a beautiful girls hair as she goes past and say something complimentary, the girls love it - IF they like the guy. Eye contact and body language will already have established this fact.

I live in a Hispanic community, they would always yell "Bonita or mamacita!" It gets very annoying. And yes they are touchy feely people. He probably wants you! Be careful...you never know what he did in Mexico

He has no right to be touching you without your permission. All languages has the words Stop IT. I think he is not acting like a gentleman. Lot of guys from Mexico think it is okay to do this, it is not. It is up to you to put a stop to it one way or another. He is rude. You apparently have some good morals, he does not. Besides most of them from Mexico wants a US citizen, for papers.

Dont worry... latin people are very hot blooded. For example, when we meet a person (opposite sex) we greet with a kiss in the chick. When we find good friends we hug. We have a lot of physical contact with the opposite sex without being sexual... its just our way of living and behaving.
