The thickened patch of skin started a couple of years ago. It itches so badly underneath the thickened patch that I will sometimes scratch too hard with a sharp object and actually cut myself. I've been given analgesic patches to deaden it, but nothing helps. what in the world is it? No bumps, no redness, just a thick callous-like patch of skin about the size of a silver dollar that itches until I'm almost sick.

This could be ringworm. Try this: Get some fresh garlic and chop it very fine. Then mix it with vaseline. Put it on your sore then cover it with a bandaid. Keep it on for 24 hours. If it is ringworm it will get rid of it immediately. I don't think it will hurt to try it. Good luck I hope that helps.
