You've got a good plan, especially involving your friend(s). Unfortunately, working abs won't appreciably reduce your bodyfat. However, you will lose some girth as your muscles tone up. You frankly should NOT workout right before bedtime. Your body "amps up" after exercise, and you'll find it more difficult to sleep.
You'll need to evaluate your level of fitness and try some of the following fat burners:
1- Cross Country Skiing
2- Running/Jogging
3- Swimming
4- Weight lifting
Whatever you can squeeze in is good. 30 minutes is a good starting target to acclimatize your body and get some aerobic benefit. Realize though, that you really need to get your pulse inside your training zone for 40 -50 minutes 4-5 days a week to actually reduce. How about maybe doing something in the AM, then after school/work, instead of watching the tube/internet, working out? Maybe go running with your friend at lunch, then eating something high protein/low carb afterwards?
To calculate your ideal heart rate:
Subtract your age from 220.
Then multiply that number by .6 and .8
That will give you a rough way to determine if you are working too hard (a common beginner's mistake) or not hard enough.
Finally, if you crash diet, you are depriving your body of nutrients. We evolved in a world where abundant food was scarce; hence your body interprets this as "famine" and will start storing even MORE fat. Plan to lose about 4-5 lbs a week, max.
Hey that'll give 16 -20lbs by the end of the month.
Good luck AND DON"T GIVE UP.

Walking may be a good start. It might be even better to try a machine that gives you an upper body workout with your walking as well... burns a few more calories. As well, for cardiovascular fitness you should strive to raise your heartrate for around 15-20 min.

Good luck and have fun!!
