we close the door but she manages to sneek into the kitchen and get into the garbage. I just got a new puppy and he eats Eukanuba, as did she when we first got her, I dont want him to pick up on her habits. What can I do to stop her?

Move your garbage. This behavior will not stop until you manage the situation. Secure your garbage, and then when it's mealtime, put your dog's food bowl down for just a minute. If your dog won't eat, take the food back and try again at the next mealtime. Your dog will not starve (no matter what he says!)
Good luck

eukanuba is not the best dog food for the price. It is over priced and over rated just like science diet.

It may be because the dog does not like the dog food and the garbage smells and tastes better. try an all natural dog food like innova, canidae, wellness, solid gold, california natural. There are more but this is a few. Seeing you are paying a good price for crap dog food, i would take the money you spend on it and buy a better quality food.

The best thing to do is get the garbage out of the house, immediately.

I have 2 labs, one is 10 1/2, the other is celebrating his 8th b'day today. They only human food they get is what we give them. Carrots, oranges, celery, broccoli, tomatoes, low fat popcorn.

THey get nothing else other then Iams dog food, they do not beg and actually, the best few months have only been allowed in the kitchen.

Now I must admit, I don't get the garbage out immediately. But, you can get a big heavy metal can, that makes it difficult to open to get the trash or you can put up gates to keep them out of the kitchen.

Think like a dog, this taste better then my food, I will not eat mine anymore but go after this people food...heart disease, weight problems..hey that is for the dumb humans that eat this stuff! And these humans leave food around for me, my people are not that smart, but I love them anyhow.

well Eukanuba is a so-so food.. its not as good as you may think it is.. it was dumbed down along with Iams when Proctor and Gamble bought out the company a few years back...
anyhow start putting your garbage some where more secure.. out side in the garbage can or where ever...
feeding better food will help but habits are habits and need to be broken

Okay, first you need to put the food down once or twice a day depending on her size, and for the pup as well. If they do not eat their food within 10 minutes take it up and wait until the next feeding time to give it to them. It sounds mean but a lot of trainers will tell you this. Also since she isn't eating you can add a teaspoon of plain yogurt to her food. Make sure it is plain. This is good for dogs and they love the taste. The schedule will also help alot.

Don't make your garbage so easy to get into. You can also spray your garbage with vinegar. They hate the the taste and learn quick. Continue for about a week. Dogs love pizza and you may need more vinegar. Onions and chocolate can be toxic to dogs so take these to outside garbage.

Put the bin in a cupboard or spray it with an essential oil like tea tree so she won't get at it. Make her food more intereseting by giving her dog gravy on her dry food, biscuits, straps or something that might take her a while to eat.

The pet shop i bought my puppy used to feed her canned dog food but dry food is better for her teeth so i stopped feeding her canned food. At first she didn't touch the dry dog food i gave her, so i took the food away, and in the next mealtime, i again gave her dry dog food . She now eats whatever food i give her 'cos she knows if she doesn't eat, she will have to go without food until the next mealtime. When she is good, i will cook her favourite food: chicken breast with broccoli for her, but for most of the time, i just feed her dry dog food and she always finishes her food quickly.
