Our school talent show is coming up in a couple of weeks, and I want to sing in it. Problem is, I have no clue what song to sing. I go to a really strict private school, so it has to be "appropriate." Also, I don't want to sing like an opera song or whatever, but I don't want to sing a really pop-py pop song. Any ideas?

School talent show coming up. Any good song ideas? I go to a strict private school, so nothing "inappropriate" or "suggestive." But, please, no opera-like stuff, super-pop music, and religious ones [i don't really do religious songs unless i'm in choir]. thank you.

Well, our high school chose Freebird as it's senior theme, and people seem to enjoy singing that......... but I do live in Iowa........

Hmmmmm..a private school,eh? Okay...Here's some ideas....

*Somewhere over the Rainbow ~Judy Garland ( Judy Garland made this song famous in an old movie called "The Wizard of Oz"....it is still a much loved song)

*My Favorite Things ~( I first heard this song in another old movie called "The Sound of Music" ....there are a lot of other great songs in this movie also)

*The Mysterious Fox of Fox Hollow ~Tom T Hall ( This is an old country song that was made for kids...very clean....and I have never heard a female do it,so that might be an interesting angle)

*Paper Rosies ~Marie Osmond (This is another old country song.. it was the first song Marie did and it was a hit for her....and I think she was only 13 at the time!!)

* Self Control ~Laura Branigan ( This is more of a rock/disco type song that Art Bell sometimes uses as "bumper" music on his late night radio program......One that I really like....but you might want to check with the school before you choose this one...I don't see anything wrong with it,but I do not know how strick they are)

Good Luck with the Talent Show and Merry Christmas!!!

I would say look for something Broadway probably. I would suggest something like "A Change In Me" from Beauty and the Beast, "I'm Not That Girl" from Wicked, "Someone Like You" from Jekyll and Hyde, "I Would Give My Life For You" from Miss Saigon, "Castle On A Cloud" from Les Miserables, or "Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again" from The Phantom of the Opera.

But which song you actually sing would depend on your voice and vocal range. I'm a Soprano 1, and most of these are well within my range (but my lower notes go down into Alto 2 range, so some people wouldn't be able to perform the same songs I would).

I am a mezzo-soprano and I sang I don't know how to love him from Jesus Christ Superstar for a recent audition for a local production of Miss Saigon(I have been cast as a bar girl)This is a wonderful song to sing, it has lots of heart and feeling to it.

Do you want something religious, or maybe "quasi-religious"? How about something like "Climb Every Mountain" or "You'll never walk alone."?

Go to a good music store, they'll have lots of stuff.
