I believe He's more than able to do that. How about this question.
Would God cause someone to die, in order for YOU to gain faith in Him?
Remember, NOTHING happens by accident. EVERYTHING has a purpose, and a reason.

After reading the Book of Job in the Bible, i believe my answer has been given. Yes, God can put things on you to allow you to suffer, all in the name of faith.
thanks to all! Merry Christmas!

God does not test people. According to His own word at James 1:13 which basically reads 'God does not try anyone".
Oh, and you mentioned that EVERYTHING happens for a reason and that nothing happens by accident. That also is incorrect, since the Bible says that "time and unforseen occurence befall us all" (Ecclesiastes 9:11). The Bible plainly shows that it is the choices we make in life that affect our future (Deuteronomy 30:19; Galatians 6:7). God has not forordained everything.
You must have misread Job, because it doesn't say God tested Job. It says God allowed Job to be tested. Satan did the testing. God allowed it because His soveriegny and Job's integrety were called into question. But then, I don't expect many people to really care what the Bible says. Most people believe what they want to without any rgard to what God says is truth.

According to the book of Job in the bible he can and he does. Job is a perfect God fearing man and one of Gods favorite men. Satan thinks job is only God fearing because God has given Job a good life. God disagrees and thinks Job will be like this even when all is taken away. God, in a sense, makes a bet with satan saying that Job will never turn against God no matter what satan does to him. God puts Jobs life in the hands of satan and satan takes away Jobs family, animals and health. Job suffers to the point that he just wants to die. Job never turns on God but does ask God why God did this to him. God responds that he can do anything he wants because he is God and how dare Job question him. In the end Job gets everything back two fold.
In addition to that have you ever heard of a theocracy? This is something that can justify everything bad happening in the world. If something bad happens to you it is because you have sinned against God and deserve to pay. I think this is proved some where in 2 Kings?
I look at the bible as a piece of literature nothing more and nothing less. But according to this literature God does cause bad things to happen to good people like Job to prove faith and if you are religious and believe the bible then you should know God does this.

NO NO NO
God does not "test" people by giving them diseases or sending someone to murder their family.
God is not responsible for the evil in the world or the sickness for that matter.
God is Love and when you really realise that you must also realise that God would never hurt anyone He loved.
Would you hurt your children or make them ill to "test" them?
To all those who believe that God does things like this and quote Job. Job is a poem people - it is a story not fact.
I have just lost a very good friend who was in hospital in terrible pain for 5 months before he passed away.
During that time he was an inspiration to all of us, His faith and love was amazing to see and despite his pain and failing health he was always more interested in those who came to see him then in his own condition.
God used him as a wonderful witness to what a life is all about but God did not make him ill in order for him to do that. God uses the circumstances that we are in to strengthen us and use us as witnesses - He does not place us in those situations or casue bad stuff to happen to us.
Thank you Lord that you are a God of Love that even in our moments of darkest dispair we know that You are with us.

yes in the christian religion , there is no such thing as a pure accident.
the fathers of the Orthodox church taught that all illness, and injuries, are sent from God to punish us or to test us.
last year I was hit by a car and severely injured, this had to be a punishment from God. this was not an "accident".
I will be in pain from my heart and in my leg for the rest of my life. And my life will now be very short after the car gave me a cardiac shock and a massive heart attack. Now my heart will be weak and pumping badly always. No magic wand exists nor drug nor technique to repair my heart muscle.
And my leg will never walk properly and will be forever swollen, painful and distorted. ( the doctor's own prognosis)
I beg you to pray for me that Jesus will be merciful and heal me.
Lord Jesus can be persuaded by prayers.- within His will.

If that's what will help you fight the disease then so be it. I don't understand the whole concept of god anyway. It makes no sense to me why a god would create a being, give it a disease, and watch it suffer and maybe die just to "test" it. If that's even the case then god sounds pretty damn evil to me.

God can do anything but fail. It is true that things happen in life that we sometimes don't understand but God knows what is best for us. Even when,at the time, we can't see it. I truly doubt that He would go to extremes that you have described. Those things may happen but for totally different reasonings to Him.God does not have to make anyone suffer to get His purposes accomplished. He draws us by His Spirit. It is a spiritual thing. Something our carnal minds can not grasp.MayGodBless

yes, look at the test job went through, but just to clarify god don't give you the test he allows satin to test you. God will always protect you in any way, but there are test that satin puts us through, so stay strong in all you do, no matter what satin throws at you. a death, disease, a friend, or loved one .. god will be there for you no matter what. have faith and you will be alright. may god bless you and yours.

James 1:13 tells us:"When under trial, let no one say:'I am being tried by God'.For with evil things,God cannot be tried nor does he himself try anyone."
2Peter 3:9:".....but he is patient with you, because he does not desire any to be destroyed but desires all to attain to repentance."
Of course,Jehovah God created us and he can destroy us.However,He is a God of Love and Justice.
One last scripture I would like to mention is found at Eccl.9:11 which tells us that ".....time and unforeseen occurrence befall them all."Accidents do happen. The Bible clearly states that

AAH AAH!!
Disease and disabilities are caused by environmental conditions either from previous times or now (mostly now)
NO GOD INVOLVED!!!
Spontaneous remission is a different thing indeed. Placebo effect is also part of the spontaneous remission mystery. (Which really is no mystery at all)
