No parent is perfect and they make mistakes. My mother has made mistakes in the past. But that is the past I have moved on and I have forgiven her. Yet any time I'm upset about something, family related, she feels like she is a failure? I was upset with my dad about something that had nothing to do with her, yet she felt like a failure. I love my mother so much and even with her mistakes I would never trade her. How can I make her understand that she's not a failure as a parent??

every time she looks nice compliment her. every time she accomplishes a task that she has set for herself notice and verbalize it. everytime she goes the extra mile for you...speak up...the more she hears she's valuable and a success the more she will believe it and become it.

Your mom suffers from low self esteem. Why don't you buy her a book with daily affirmations in it. Melody Beattie has a few wonderful ones. You need to point out to her all her positive attributes and get her to focus on all the good things she has done. You could start by pointing out that she has raised a very lovely child who is caring and compassionate and obviously loves her very much. A person really has to do a lot of great parenting to do this. Also if she was a failure then she wouldn't have your devotion and support. Good luck to your both and God bless.

She is lacking self cofidance and you need to take her out and get her to do things that will build her self esteem up
