The brain is a physical organ. It perishes with your body when you die. The "soul" intended as consciousness or mind, is your personality, which comes from what your brains has sorted out with experiences and turned into memories, feelings, knowledge.
If you don't have a brain, the hardware, you can't have the software, your memories. They have to be stored and fired up as information for you to think and act. No such thing can happen if your body dies.

You would need the area of the brain that is your personality. These are mostly located in the temporal lobes.
The personalities of people who are involved with spiritual practices like prayer, meditation and ceremony are shaped by the altered-state experiences their spirituality creates. The part of the brain that manages our states of consciousness, the temporal lobes, is a little busier in these people than most, producing personality traits that appear over and over among spiritually oriented people.
There is no "soul" that exists separately from the body. That is, our body is not a container for an invisible spirit that is released when we die. Everything you think, feel, or experience is handled by your brain.

Science now understands that our "brains" encompass our whole bodies, in a very real way. We expereince and learn with our whole being. The energy that makes each of us unique is that building up of experience in our body/brain over the years that we live. We also have the amazing ability to experience ourselves experiencing.
However, if you imagine the soul as something that goes on after we are dead then you are "begging the question." Though we all know of saints, ghosts, and seances with "voices from beyond" there isn't much hard evidence that "who you are" exists after you don't have a body. We all seem to want it, though. Religions rely on it. Might hard to test.

Your body is formed around your soul, therefore your soul is a mirror of your body. If your soul leaves your body, you will be a full personage just like you are now, but made of pure spiritual material instead of skin and bones. And if you get a leg cut off, your soul still has its leg. Your soul is the REAL YOU, the LIVING part of you. Your body is actually the foreign substance, not the soul.

No the soul is not in the brain. The soul exist as the result of combining the breath of life and the body. Once the breath of life is separated from the body, the soul is not in existence any longer. Just as the 'light' is the combination of electrical current and the electric bulb, and it does not exist any longer once the electrical current is separated from the bulb, so is the soul become extinct, when the breath of life is taken out of the body.

Do you know we get a new brain every 7 years? Since old cells die and new are created. But soul stays the same!

The concept of a "soul" does not refer to a physical thing; it is strictly spiritual. You can't pinpoint where or exactly what the soul is; it's simply the immortal concept that defines who we are as individuals. Where you take that notion, religiously or otherwise, is simply your interpretation of the whole thing.

No, that is not correct. The brain is an organ like your heart. Your soul is eternal. It exists after the body decays.

the soul is in you yes your brain maybe if you believe in the lord our god, then it is in the heart, what you believe in your heart is in the brain, so in some sense its in the brain, but truley where the soul is its in the heart. that's where god lives in all of us, he made a spot in us just for him and all we have to do is believe and accept him.
