Yes it is, but to a degree only! It is not that you should not eat dinner, but more about when you eat dinner. Eating just a very little for dinner around 4pm and that is it, do not eat anything else maybe drink a lot of water, or if you are having a hard time hanging, then maybe have an apple. This way you are fasting from 4pm till the next day and that will definately help you lose weight faster!! Good luck, I know it is not easy, but hang in there because it is not impossible either.

In theory. But, the fact is that skipping meals is not a good way to diet. A couple of things can happen. You will make up for the missed meal by binging at other times. Or, your body will adapt and your metabolism will slow down leading to decreased weight loss.
What you want to do is eat a planned meal three times daily. Breakfast is really the most important meal of the day. It sets the pattern for the rest of the day. Stay away from fried food, batter food, breaded foods. Try to eat broiled, boiled, stir-fried, or baked food. I prefer baking and stir-frying. With those you can really spice up a meal without adding calories. Stay away for sodas, fruit juices, etc....They are just loaded with empty calories. Plan your meals and plan for snacking in-between. I eat something every 3-4 hours, even while at work. I have nutritious but tasty snack food all around me. That keeps you from getting that doughnut or bearclaw.
Exercise. Exercise. Exercise. Or, better yet, find an activity you like and go at it. I run, bike, swim, lift weights and box. I like doing these things. I'm sure there are physical activities you enjoy. Exercise you like is fun not a chore. If you can't exercise due to poor health what about water aerobics and treadmills? Both are low impact and at your own pace.
Good luck.

Usually people who need to shed weight won't listen when told that weight enters through the mouth. Some get offended actually. So it never works for them. The ones that take it, don't need to skip meals. It's actually unhealthy to skip meals no matter how fat you are.
People just need to learn to eat a smaller portion every time, and mostly, avoid sweets, specially women, which have a tendency to get heavier with anything that has sugar.
No need to avoid eating other more complex carbos like pasta, rice or even fats from meats. The body has a harder time taking sugar out of these, but it will convert the easy sugar from cakes, ice cream, candy bars, into fat very fast.

Dear Patty:
That's absolutely false. In fact I was talking today about this to a friend that works at a Gym. He explained me that if you don't eat or if you skip meals, you make glucose levels in your blood become unstable, and that favours gaining weight.
The best you can do is having your dinner about 2 hrs before going to sleep and NEVER skip meals- in addition, if you skip meals you can get gastritis.
Did you know that many people who want to loose weight eat MORE? Yes, they do! But the difference is that their food is quality food. So for getting a good menu you should consult a nutritionist.
I hope this helps!

It is not so much of having, or not, having dinner. It is a matter of having dinner late, eating too much, and then going into a relative inactive state. Your metabolism naturally slows when you slow activities for the day and then finally go to sleep. What your Mom told you about breakfast being the most important meal was correct. Eat you biggest meals early, eat lite and healthy in the evenings and you will achieve a more "ideal" weight much easier.

Skipping meals can cause your metabolism to slow down thus you do not lose weight. If you want to lose weight then eat smaller portions and break it down to several times a day. If you need extra help in losing as I did then you can try a weight loss supplement. I lost 30 pounds in 40 days and I did not skip meals or buy and eat special foods, but I did use a no diet weight loss plan that is easy to use and taste great to help me lose.

No... Skipping meals can cause your metabolism to drop. In reality, you should eat smaller meals through out the day. Basically you should eat every three hours of a smaller meal to keep your body fueled with energy.
Same for breakfast. If you skipped breakfast, it is not helping your weight loss goal.

Your body needs to turn food into energy so if you skip meals you become more tired and do less. You need to eat a big breakfast, a medium lunch and a small dinner in order to have enough energy for the whole day.

Contrary to belief, not eating slows your metabolism. Eating six small meals, two of these being a light snack will speed your metabolism and help you lose the weight. Of course, exercising and drinking lots of water.
