Cream Cheese Icing
For Carrot Cake

One 8-once package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup butter, melted
2 tbs vanilla
One 1-lb. box confectioner's sugar

1. With an electric mixer, beat the cream cheese until it is light and fluffy.

2. Gradually add the melted butter, beating until it is completely absorbed.

3. Add the vanilla and the sugar, beating well after each addition so that the icing is smooth.

Remove the cooled cake from the pan, then smooth the icing over the top and sides.
use this icing, but add milk to the consistency you want

You want it thick for cinnamon buns, you're supposed to ice the buns a few minutes after they come out of the oven so they melt the icing. Maybe what you want is an icing that's easily spread, rather than thin? If so, take a block of cream cheese, add about a half cup of sugar, 1tsp of vanilla, and whip them till you get the consistency you want.

This is my recipe and everyone loves it. I prefer a plain icing myself

2 cups sifted powdered sugar
1 tablespoon soft butter
1/4 cup softened cream cheese
2 tablespoons cream or whole milk
Pinch of salt
2 tsp vanilla extract

Combine cream cheese and butter until smooth. Add remaining ingredients and beat with an electric mixes, adding more milk or cream until the desired consistency. Drizzle over warm cinnamon rolls.

a lot relies upon upon what type of cake you'll frost - for a known cake - Butter Cream made with genuine butter; no matter if that is a spice cake or carrot cake - Cream Cheese.
