I go to community college, and I have a guy math tutor. Hes around my age(19/20/21), and hes super chill. Should I get him a small XMas present? Maybe like a $5 gift card dunkin doughnuts or something?! I dont want him to think I have a crush on him or anything (cuz i dont), but, more of like a way of saying "thanks for the math help" (because I needed it!!)

Good idea a small gift card is a great suggestion! I don't think he'll think it's a crush gift....if so, that'd be an awful cheap gift! But just a small token of thanks like that seems great.

You're thoughtful for thinking like that! He's obviously a true teacher, being the same age. So, what do you like? Do you have anything in common? Maybe he likes Dunkin Donuts? If he does, that's great - a gift card! Pretty sure he's not expecting anything from you, so anything you give him will be ok. Really don't think he'll think you have a crush on him because he's around the same age as you. You're just thankful for his help in the math area.

How about a $5 gift card for the local music store? Or, a nice new pen - they don't cost that much. (just idea's)

It is appropriate to give your tutor a gift just for his help. If you are concerned about his beliefs, just give the gift with a thank you card rather than a Christmas card. You shouldn't spend too much. The gift card is an OK idea or some other small token gift like candies or knick knacks. If you know his musical tastes you could get him a CD or a download gift card.

I think that you should get him a gift. First though, make sure he celebrates Christmas. Like even though his last name does not sound of another religion, his mother could be Jewish or something. I agree that you do not want to show that you like him in that way but I do not think that a five dollar gift card is good because that kind of looks cheap. I always say that a gift is better because you can always find something that looks nice for cheap but a gift card has to be at least twenty dollars (for non-family members) to look good. I would get him something that would suit him or a gift card to a place that he likes to go (i.e. Best Buy, American Express Gift Card, etc.).

Let him know you appreciate him helping you with your math studies and wish him a Merry Christmas

(Especially if you have a better understanding of the topic since he started helping you. Feedback is important and way cool.)

I think if you want to give himself, you should give him a roll of quarters. Would come in handy when he has to do laundry, for parking, vending machines, phone calls, etc.

It is not how much you spend, it's being thought of that makes the gift special.

I've received a gift card for tutoring before and I loved it; I even remembered it was from GAP. I would certainly not be thrilled by a $5 gift card for donuts though!

Yeah it sounds like a good idea, maybe you could make him some food, some muffins, pie or cookies but the gift card is also a good idea.
