Take your address book and a box of holiday greeting cards, be sure to get a window seat and write away to people you love. You get a great perspective on life looking out the window, and you;ll feel great when you mail them at the airport you land at.

Do you do any crafts? You could get some work done on them, if they do not involve needles or sharp objects.
Pen and paper or laptop for writing.
I'd spend some time going over my calendar.
I'd bring my Bible so I could read and pray.
Go through a photo album and relive some of the memories.
Bring travel brochures and become more familiar with your area, if it's new. Portable DVD player?

Books, magazines, music, cross sword puzzles. For a 5 hour flight there will probably be a movie also. If you are not fond of airline food, you should also bring snacks.

Definitely a DVD player. Have a PDA? You can get some good games on there (I like Scrabble).

Crafty? Bring some knitting or embroidery.

You could take a high school cheerleader squad with you. That would be entertaining and give you something to watch during the flight.

Nothing beats a book.

If you really want to be different scissors, for doing artwork. Liquid glue to stick them together. A knife to scrape and trim edges. Wrap your head and face with a towel to avoid any injury while working.
