Sounds like he needs to go on a diet. I watched a programme where a vet put this cat on a special vegetarian diet. May be best if you seek advice from a qualified vet about the type of food you should give him.

According to the latest research my vet got at a conference given by a feline diabetes expert... dry food is the culpret! Cats in the wild are obligate carnivores with a ZERO daily requirement for carbohydrates. Dry food is 35-60% carbs... cats are born nearly insulin resistant which means they can't process carbs like you and I or dogs can and they quickly become obese on an all dry food diet.
The experts say to put them on a good quality CANNED kitten food FOR LIFE. An average adult cat will need 4-6 ounces of canned food per day to maintain healthy weight. There are also a few prescription foods at your vet's that are low carb dry foods if your cat won't eat canned.
We have used this at the clinic on obese kitties and have had amazing results getting them to safely lose weight. Obese kitties have nearly a 50% chance of becoming diabetic.

my cat was getting chubby. here's what i did. the vet said my cats ideal weight should be between 10- 11 lbs, and he was over 12. just 2 lbs doesn't seem like much, but for a cat it's a lot. i feed my cat what an 8lb cat would eat according to the bag directions. and he is at a steady 11lbs. do not free feed. feed twice a day- i give my cat 1/4 a can of wet food ( not the smaller cans) mixed with a little water (for urine dilution) with a quarter cup of dry food sprinkled on top. he gets this twice daily and is now a lot more active. No treats though, or tastes of your food! If i left dry food out all day, he would eat and eat and eat. Also, getting another cat can help him get enough exercise. if that is impossible, make sure he gets lots of playtime with you- try some catnip bags to get him going berserk. Feed your cat in this manner, but mae sure you weigh him every week. He should lose no more than 2 lbs a month, or that is too fast. Just jump on the scale with him, then weigh yourself and do the math. A good dry/ canned cat food is eukaneuba, or spa select. they have less additives than other brands.
Also, wet cat food is not fattening, in fact, by volume it has less calories than dry food. cats in the wild eat flesh- a good balance of wet and dry food is optimal- good for the bladder- especially if your cat is a male(wet food) and the teeth(dry food) avoid cat foods that have a lot of starches or grains- cats need the primary ingredient to be protein- chicken, lamb, salmon, etc. cat foods high in corn gluten, rice, meal, wheat can help make cats fat- by nature they are not suppposed to eat that many carbs- their body chemistry is designed for them to run well on a mostly high protein diet.
whatever food, wet or dry, depends on the quality of the ingredients in them. in dry food, the calories are more condensed in a smaller amount of food.

Every single one of those foods is CRAP! That is awful stuff full of ingredients you wouldn't eat yourself if you were starving (supermarket pet food companies have been proven to include cancerous animal tissue, bones, ears, noses, feet etc., euthanized pets, roadkill, and worse in their food!)
Here's a list of high-end pet foods, just switching to a better food will help a lot, and almost every brand carries a weight control diet. Make sure you're feeding what the bag says to LOSE weight, not maintain, and no more wet food at all. Wet food is high in fat and shouldn't be fed while trying to get him to lose weight. You can find these foods at Petsmart, holistic pet stores, or online at http://www.petfooddirect.com:
Artemis
Avoderm
Blue Spa
Canine Caviar Cat Formula
Evolve
Nature's Recipe
Pinnacle
Timberwolf Organics
Verus
Wellness
Wysong
SAY NO TO:
Iams, Pedigree, Purina, Alpo, KitnKaboodle, Pro Plan, Friskies, Whiskas, Meow Mix, 9 Lives, anything else in a supermarket. Trust me, you'll notice a HUGE change in your cat- he'll lose weight, gain energy, have a beautiful coat with less shedding, poop less and less smelly, and just all around be a healthier cat, all thanks to better food.
And here's a link to an article describing the full horrors of supermarket brands, if you care to read:

Sounds like you are feeding him far too much - wet food PLUS deli-cat/kit and kaboodle PLUS Iams weight control.
How about just weight control in the suggested amount. Make sure there is plenty fo water.
To feed wet food alone leads to teeth problems, Cats need to chew to clean their teeth. We have got many cats in with disgusting teeth because they were only fed wet (canned) food.
My cats have Royal Canin food on offer (this is actually an all in food) and at night they get a small portion of wet food - only because one has to have medication and it has to be mixed with food.

No. They are still rich and fat. They all attended that 50,000 a plate dinner and still stood in support of him at the convention. The elite already knew what he said. Now the rest of us know too!

no, actually, dry food does not have the nutrients that quality wet food has, so they just eat way more to get the nutrition they need.
below are some links that taught me a lot about my cat's obesity & how foods make a huge difference in your cat's health. what you need to do is invest in quality weight control food. kit & kaboodle is definately a low-quality food and so is Iams. i fed my cats purina for years before i discovered that was probably one of the worst foods out there. read the section about ingredients. there are tons of articles here about your cats health that will really help you a LOT!
here are some foods to try for weight management:
1) Innova Cat Lite
For my cats, Innova is the top of the line in commercial cat food and the lite formula is no exception. Top named ingredients include turkey, chicken, ground barley; ground brown rice, chicken meal, potatoes, rice, and herring, with pea fiber, apples, Lower protein (28.8% dry matter) and fat content make the difference in this formula.

2) Natural Balance Reduced Calorie Dry Cat Food
Top listed ingredients are brown rice, chicken meal, chicken, oat groats, lamb meal, oatmeal, potatoes, and duck. Guaranteed analysis includes protein at 30.5% dry matter and fat at 10%. My cats love all the Natural Balance formulas, including the reduced calorie version.

3) Wellness Super5Mix Lite Formula for Cats
Top ingredients: deboned chicken, chicken meal, ground whole barley, ground whole Oats, ground brown rice, rice bran, chicken liver. Guaranteed analysis: Protein 33% (dry matter), Fat 9% fibre 8.3%. Wellness is highly rated by forum members, although some cats apparently do not like the taste. I would still definitely recommend trying it.
4) Chicken Soup for the Cat Lover's Soul Lite
Contains Fresh Chicken, Salmon, Potatoes, Duck, Turkey, Carrots, and Peas. Dry matter values: Protein 36%, fat 10%, fibre 9%. Gives 3.2 kcals per gram. "Chicken Soup" hit the ground running when it was first introduced, and continues to rank high among Cats Forum members' cats.
5) Drs.Foster & Smith Chicken & Brown Rice Formula Lite
First named ingredients are deboned real chicken meat, brown rice, whole sweet potatoes, whole blueberries, and whole cranberries. Contains 33% protein, 10% fat, 7% fiber, and 336 calories per cup (3.75 oz. by weight). Drs.Foster & Smith's foods are developed by a veterinarian. They are one of the few manufacturers of food that disclose every nutrient detail, including comparison to AAFCO standards.

6) Nutro Natural Choice Complete Care Weight Management
First named ingredients are chicken meal, ground rice, corn gluten meal, rice flour and dried beet pulp. The caloric value is not known. Nutro remains a favorite of my cats from Day One, and is highly regarded by forum members. It is relatively economical and cats seem to love the flavor.

Wet cat food is fattening. He doesn't need it, so don't give it to him. They have a weight control dry food and you can give it to him in smaller portions.
