I agree. That is the point of the "incarnation" idea of Christianity because it demonstrates the importance of humanity. "Do unto others as you would have them to unto you" is of utmost importance because it then follows that human rights and womens' rights grow out of that concept.

i could care less about womens rights (unless it is severly compromised, such as in some third world countries). dont get me wrong, i just think that somthing as widespread as religion should concentrate more on things like ending fighting, keeping people alive, world peace, things like that. once thoughs are taken car of then concentrate on the smaller things. as i stated in the quote above, women such as the ones under the taliban government who get stoned to death for walking outside without a male do need delt with.
the reason religion needs to stay, or slowly die. if religion disolve all of a sudden, the world would tun into anarchy, killing would become previlent, and from a biblical term the apocolyps woud occure. even though i am an atheist and see the horrors of religion, i also see that it keeps people together fighting in unison vs. mass chaos. thats my stance weather you agree with it or not.

If a religion can convince you that there are other things more important that human rights/women's rights, then it relieves us of having to worry about those topics. The important thing is to get those old ladies feeling so guilty that they send all their money to the nice men on TV to help the hungry and pay for their prostitutes.

Plenty of good, if it is not necessarily opposed to those concepts, but rather, just doesn't focus on them. And furthermore, just because a religion teaches men and women should have different roles in society, does not mean it is against "women's rights." The Bible teaches that man and woman are one upon their marriage, and therefore equal.

It is not the purpose of religion to address human rights or women's rights. It is the purpose of religion to teach us to love and respect and assist each other. If that precept was followed by everyone, then we would not have to worry about human rights or women's rights.

Finally! A direct thoughtful question, and the answer I have is if a religion excludes ANY one because of race and or gender, it is useless and should be sent to the dust bin of history.

it's because fundamentalists take the word of god (which is horribly intolerant and violent), and believe it literally. They then go on crusades of hate and terror, behaving like they deserve to go to hell, but they KNOW they won't because they have religion.
there's an article at cnn.com by a religious guy that i believe every religious person should be FORCED to read and at least consider.
here is a link http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/12/13/bakker.brown.commentary/index.html

You seem to have the typical attitude, "I'll just shop around till I find the right religion."
Obviously, if a religion doesn't fit what you think it should be, then it must be false.

I know that had to be very difficult for you to make that decision but it shows how brave you are to do it. We have to look at why did God destroy people before the flood. It was because they were violent.

It might be that it's purpose is to get to know God, so you can be ready when you come before him to give an account of your deeds, after your body dies..
