When I was younger, I used to be really self-conscious about the hair on my forearms, because it was always thick and dark and would always get stuck to my watch (painful!). So I decided to shave it all off.

Now, many years later, my mother has found out that I shave my forearms and has told me that she finds it 'repulsive'. She and my sister give me a lot of crap about shaving my forearms. Plus I often ACCIDENTALLY cut myself on my wrists when I'm shaving. So I'm thinking about just letting it grow back. But I know that if I do let it grow back, it will come in even thicker and darker than it was before I started shaving!

So I want to know if there's a way that I can lighten my armhair once it does grow back? I don't want to bleach it because that will turn my armhair blonde, which will look funny because I'm a brunette.

Thanks for your advice, and thank God this is anonymous!

Actually bleaching is not such a bad idea. I am a semi-dark brunette, and I tend to grow alot of hair on my arms (damn genetics.). While my mom completly objects to the thought of shaving the hair, and BTW that isn't such a great idea because after a few days it gets all scruffy. So when I told a friend of mine my problem, she offered to bleah it for me, and after it was done, and because my arm hair is dark, it came out like golden hilights. Trust me bleaching is not as bad as you think, it just depends on the color of your skin, if your olive it'll come out great.

Hope this helps.

Lightening your arm hair probably would not make a big difference and would be very time consuming and difficult. I reccommend buying the Veet gel with the bladeless razor, I dont have dark arm hair but there is alot and I dont like it. With Veet you know all the hair is gone and you dont have to worry about any cuts plus it lasts longer than shaving and the hair does not come back as thick. Getting rid of arm hair is not repulsive, if it is sometimg that makes you self conscious then fix it. Seriously consider Veet.. Good Luck!

I have the same issue that you have, and it's so bad, when I was in high school, everyone thought I was either a guy with really big boobs, or I was on testerostrone. I recently found a way to make it look better. If you cut up half a lemon, and put the juice on your arms then walk outside for anywhere from a half hour, to an hour, it will lighten just enough to make it look more natural. I hope that helps! :-)

Don't listen to your mother; there is nothing wrong with shaving your arms! I do it because when I was younger my arms were really hairy, also because I have very fair skin but dark hair, and it made me feel unfeminine. The only disadvantage to shaving is the upkeep - you have to do it maybe every two days or you'll start getting a stubble. Try waxing maybe. OUCH but it lasts a lot longer.

Try waxing then after the waxing you could try electrolysis. My sister also had very dark arm hair she was always so insecure of herself, eventually it disappeared by itself in time hope this helps lots of luck. Don't shave anymore use something like Nair or Veet.

Well... nothing on the Internet is totally anonymous. Never put anything in print that you don't want to see in the newspaper the next day. One of our states politicians recently had to resign because he posted something embarrassing on a web site that he thought was anonymous. Yahoo has records that connect back to your email address, and therefor to you. Also, every transmission you send to this forum includes your ip address.

Try body waxing, as it is more permanent.

I think you could use a light brown dye on your arms. I believe you need to go see your doctor as you may have hirsutism and it may be caused by a hormone inbalance. I am not sure but I believe one of the treatments for this is birth control pills. You could cut it short with scissors after you color it. Using a conditioner on it would make the hair soft also.

I would just keep on shaving but with a shaving cream since you've cut yourself a few times. And, I don't think it's repulsive. I do it myself and I know a lot of people who do it. Models and celebrities do it too!
