There is a good alternative to Elliptical Trainers, try Stepper, I recommend to my students, pls see link:

Jim I agree with you, running is very good for burning fat. If you guys need a good Elliptical Trainer, try Precor. That's much better. Avoid poor quality equipment.

I sympathize. I had one, and got rid of it. Couldn't keep up with the routine I had. Frankly I went back to running, and haven't regretted it. Another option might be a recumbent stationary bike.
Hopefully, you'll have better luck with yours than I did with mine.
