I just relocated to NYC and found an apt I liked (with a NYC real estate), paid the fee, and submitted application within the last 2 weeks. Initially they said the apt will be ready in January, then said Dec 15. however, I've called them EVERYDAY in the past week, and the answer's always been along the lines of "we got all we need and we're working on your app., just check back with us." Although I'm looking at other places, this is the one I really want.

I'm fraustrated b/c I really need a place, and don't know what to do. Has anyone gone through this process before? can you tell me what the next should be? is this normal? Is the apt just not ready or am I just not qualified? Thanks in advance.

The real estate is very well know in the city and trustable.

You really have to be patient with NYC landlords. Sometimes they move very slowly! The process of getting an apartment can be really frustrating. If you really want the apartment, give it a another week and see what happens.

Have you been calling the landlord or the realtor?

Keep in mind that this is the holiday season, and things really slow down. Lots of people are on vacation, so what would normally take a week can take two. The week between Christmas and New Year's....NOTHING goes on and some offices just close for the week.

Ask the realtor if you can go see the apartment again and check out the status for yourself. If the realtor has an office, go to the office and ask to speak to a manager about getting your fee back if they don't help out in this situation.
