Hi, I live in Vacaville, near by to Sacramento. I have been looking all over for a white kitten. I don't need to hear about how those animals are deaf or blind or whatever. It is not true for all white cats. Anyways, I have been searching shelters near where I live and Craigslist for months now with no luck. If you have or know anyone who has a white kitten please let me know. I am willing to pay adoption fee and drive within an hour. Thanks for looking. Please help people...I've always wanted a white cat since I was a kid. Happy Holidays~

you're right, not all are blind or deaf, its just more likely in white cats. BUT maybe you should consider taking in a handi-capped pet. I promise theyre just as loving as others :0)

I work in a shelter, I have to promote.

Anyway, try www.petfinder.com you're sure to find some. The adoption agency I work at right now (sorry, I'm in Indiana, if you were near here, I'd have more resources for you) had 4 all white cats/kittens this month, so I promise they're out there. Just takes a bit of looking. Good luck!

Pity you don't live here in Australia. So far I have fostered 4 pure white kittens - 2 males and 2 females. None of them were deaf. I actually have two here with me now. They were evacuated from the bad bushfires we are having here.

The deafness, as far as I am aware and I did have a discussion with the vet at the Shelter where I work, is not sex related. Both male and female have to carry the gene for a white cat to be deaf.

As for the myth that they also have to have blue eyes to be deaf - we had a pure white cat handed into the shelter who was deaf - he had one blue eye and the other was green. His previous owners didn't even know he was deaf!
We also had another full grown pure white (male) cat at the shelter. He had his hearing as well.
Anyway, as it stands we have had four pure white kittens at the shelter in the past month. I don't know if there are any others, besides the ones I have, that are out on foster.

Keep checking with your shelters, and I presume you have put your name down at them in case one comes in? Good luck, and happy holidays.

HEY, try looking in the greensheets ad in your area, they are always giving out cats for free or for 10 or 15 dollars.
and white cats r not what people say, i have a pure white Manx (manxs are born pure white with no tail or with a short tail)cat that is not blind or deaf, she also had kittens a while back and she had 2 pure whit cats and they were normal also.
sorry i gave them to family about 6 months ago.

It is white cats with one or more blue eyes that have a tendency to be deaf. It is not a 100% deal, but just more likely to be true if they have 1 or 2 blue eyes.

Manx cats come in ALL colors, not just white (a little research wouldn't go amiss!!!)

Good luck with your search, there's no reason you can't have a perfectly normal white cat with or without blue eyes :-)

I just got myself an all white kitty with blue eyes from the animal shelter. She has a few strands of dark fur on the top of her head, but you have to look to see them.

She isn't deaf at all, so I guess we're one of the luckier ones.

As for finding a kitty, you may want to check your local papers, pet stores and animal shelters. You may also want to check local vet offices, for I've seen kittens up for adoption there.

Good luck.

good luck trying to find one. i hear they are hard to find. i had a pure white kitten and she was gorgeous... she was not deaf or blind but she was amazingly smart and had some an amazing personality... and to think i went to the shelter to find a pure black cat! what a trade!

Go on the web and look under cat breeder. You are not stating if you want a long hair or short hair.

here you go. hope that helps. I'll look for a few more for you as well, i like doing these searches, I always help my friends find pets.

I think it's great that you don't care about the deaf thing and such, deaf pets need loving homes too.

If the kitty is male, there's a chance it won't be deaf.... 99% of females are, however. and they can also be a little agressive (the females) because of thier defness.

good luck!!!
