I've got a plastic sports drink thing I bought at GNC and I've used it for making protein chocolate shakes and also just for filling it with water and drinking at my desk. When I'm only drinking water, after a couple of days the corners on the inside start becoming a light green. I think it's mold but not sure. Does anyone know what it is? Is it poisonous and should I replace the bottle? I could clean it of course and I do, but still want to know what it is. Thanks.

It is bacteria. There was a report done on the news here in Indianapolis about water bottles. Experts say that you have to clean them with an antibacterial dish soap and once a week mix the dish soap with a little bleach. Clean it and rinse it very well before you use it. I would even suggest popping it in the dishwasher once or twice a week. Bacteria will grow inside of the bottle because mainly the bottle sits out in the open and the the water in it is a breeding ground for harmful bacteria to grow. At walmart, there is this mini refrigerator that costs about 5.99. I got one just for that reason. It is soo small that it sits like on the floor by your feet and it is portable. NO outlets needed. I would suggest buying one.

Good luck

it could be mold...it could also just be biuldup from tap water

first, you should make sure that the bottles you are reusing are ok to reuse because some plastic bottles actually breakdown after reusing and can cause cancer. next time you buy a new one check to make sure it doesnt say "do not reuse or refill".

second, you should always run the bottle throught the dishwasher after every daily use. if its a cheaper one and cant stand the heat of the dishwasher, wash it by hand w/ ur regular dish liquad.

It is very likely mold growing on the inside of the bottle. fill the bottle 1/4 way with bleach and shake vigorously. then scrub the bottle as best you can. this shoudl clean the bottle and make it mold free. The other opion is get a new bottle.

You defininatly have mold and bacteria build up.You need to either get another bottle or sanitize that one real well.I'd get a bottle brush and scrub it inside in and out.I'd invest in one of those anyway if youre going to get a new sports bottle,so you can keep it clean.Good luck.

It's definitely mold. Best way for giving your plastic bottles a longer shelf life is to clean it when you're done, and then put it in the freezer when you're not using it (such as overnight). Kills mold fast.

no matter how much you try and clean it, you will need a bottle brush, other wise the bacteria will continue to grow on the inside.

you should only reuse a bottle for about a day. Things start to grow in it.

yuk! I'm sure it is mold from whatever is in your local water. Have you tried washing it in a dishwasher to sanitize, as opposed to handwashing?
