Actually, I look at Revelations from a historical perspective.
The book was written about current events. Since they would have gotten in serious political trouble to talk openly about the government and the goings on, the writings were cloaked, making it look like strange stories or even a drug trip to those who were and not in tuned to what was going on at the time.
Similar writings were done throughout history. Fairy tales and nursery rhymes of today were cloaked stories to talk gossip over children's heads. Example, Red Riding Hood was about a girl who fooled around before marriage, Jack and Jill was about a young couple messing around before marriage, and Ring Around the Rosies was about a plague.
It's hard to say exactly what Revelations is about unless you know exactly what was going on at the time it was written.

As far as the end times go, that could be any minute, or we could yet have another zillion years to go. Jesus himself didn't know when it would happen. It's silly to think that we know more about the "when" part than Jesus.

I know I'm going to get "thumbs down" for my answer but that just shows the ignorance of those who believe in the Revelations thing as being the end times. The question was "Do you believe..." Not, "Is this the common Christian belief that..."
If I had answered any differently, then I would have been lying, but it's stupid to "thumbs-down" an OPINION.

that's one of the techniques used by "Hell Fire & Brimestone" preachers to motivate the weak minded members of the congregation into submission. We all live till we die, and that's when the world ends or the "end" of all life on earth as we know it.

As for the prophets and the Book of Revelations, those scriptures are so ambigious no one can say with any accuracy what they mean. It really doesn't matter anyway. If you're a God fearing person, and you abide by the laws of God, you got nothing to worry about. If you don't live right, you're doomed and nothing is going to help you. The Book of Revelations forcasts a lot of natural disasters, famines, floods, eathquakes, volcanic activity, wars and rumors of wars, ect, ect. Well, those things have been occurring before, during and after the time of Christ. So,, is the prophets right? Of Course,, because those thing is going to keep on happening just as they have throughout history!!

When you die, you cease to exist. The only thing that remains is the memory a few people have that you ever did exist, and except for a very few famous and infamous historical figures that memory fades away rather rapidly. The only thing left of them is a record of existance, and sometimes that's questionable.

Yes, i do believe that the Book of revelation speaks to our current times and situation.

The problem with understanding what Revelation has to say is that it was written during the first century in a very Roman looking society and the picture and images The Apostle John uses are very foreign to our modern minds.

In order to get into the depths of Revelation we simply need to read it the way we read the rest of the Bible. In context.
Read it in the context of the first century and understand where and how many of the things would have happened in John's time period then see where many of those countries are in today's world. See the things those countries are doing and much and what John said about "Babylon" or the "ten kings" or the seven churches begin to take shape.

I encourage much reading in Revelation.

I'm not Christian, but I studied a lot of religion in college. Revelations was not written to be a prophecy, it was a book to give Christians hope during their persecution under the Romans. A lot of symbolism is easily about the city of Rome: "the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated." (Rev. 17:9). Ever hear of the seven hills of Rome? "Nero Caesar" in Hebrew numerology = 666. The Great Whore of Babylon who fornicated with all the kings of the earth is the Roman Empire, all the kings had to deal with Rome because Rome effectively ruled the world.

BTW, Daniel isn't about modern times, either. Check out I & II Maccabees in the "Apocrypha". It's about the Maccabean Revolt, now celebrated by Jews as Hannukah.

I believe Revelation was written very much about John's current situation, and also about the centuries that followed. The end times? They began with the day of Pentecost. I don't know when that period will be over.

Yes I do believe we are. and I do believe the book of Revelation was written for the end times, most of the prophesies have already come true, read the book of Daniel: Chapters 7through12 Daniel had many visions and dreams which he did not understand. He dreamed of four beasts which represented four kingdoms of the world, and of a ram and a goat. which depicted two of those kingdoms in greater detail.Daniel's vision reveal that the Messiah will be the Ruler of a spiritual kingdom that will overpower and overshadow all other earthly kingdoms,7:9 here the prophecy shifts to the end times. this judgment scene is similar to one seen by the apostle John(Revelation 1:14,15)

Yes I do believe we are living in end times. Read Matthew 24:23-51, Mark 13:21-37, Luke 21:25-38. Revelation has not even started for us. We have been studying it. That is yet to come for all who are not saved. The church will be ruptured before all the things happen. People need to be ready when Jesus comes back to get His children. There will be people saved during that time, but they will suffer more for their faith than what we do now.

This is my belief: Not only are we living in the last days, we are in the last of the last days before the second coming of Christ, and the befalling of the tribulations upon the earth. I go to a full gospel church, and we study much about this. Yes, the book of Revelation is written about our current situation, as well as about things to come. There is prophecy unfolding daily all around us. Many do not see or believe this, but you must open your eyes, and look at things in a spiritual sense. Even many Christians think that there is all the time in the world to do what they want to do. The lost (unsaved) people are not even thinking about it at all, except for the atheists, which think about it long enough to ridicule it, and laugh and mock God some more. Study diligently, and be ready at all times, as best you can. Stay in prayer. Love in Christ, and the Peace of God be upon you. DL.

No. I am not into doom and gloom religions and doom and gloom seems to be many religions mantra. Look at your question about the book of Revelation. Could your question have also been asked lets say, 400 years ago or for that matter a 1000 years ago? Or your question could have been asked during the hundred years war by any of the warriors in battle or by any prisoner of war. It is all relative.

Not too much in it about the current world situation, but certainly about the world situaion that is soon to come. Revelation 3 talks about the luke warm church and I think that is a current world situation, that God predicted, but the rest of the book will not take place until the church is removed by Christ.
