I am not an atheist. I have never told my children the lie about santa claus. They have NEVER believed in santa, and it caused exactly zero tears. I refused to lie to them about the existence of santa claus for the simple reason that they would have found out eventually that it was a lie, then when I try to teach them about God and Jesus, they will think that it is just another santa claus story. Another lie. So I never told them the santa lie. It all worked out good, and they are both Christians. No tears over old saint nick. Not one.

It depends on whether they are telling children that already believe in Santa. If they are, the children will probabably go to their parents and say "This strange man told me there was no Santa" after which the parents will allay their children's fears with a reaffirmation of the myth.

Children who don't believe in Santa will say "So?"

It's no worse than the children at school who've already found out the secret, and tell the rest.

Santa Clause is the Gifty who give us the ability to be comforted by beliefs that can never stand the test of rational analysis and that defy all human experience. Among these are the fidelity of spouses, the medicinal efficacy of copper worn close to the body, powdered rhinoceros horn as an aphrodisiac, and deities who love us and will help us to have a better sales record this quarter.

God! I feel better already.

What a strange query.

I've decided to tell my son that Santa is a make-believe man. We can pretend that Santa brings gifts because it's a fun game but there's really no Santa.

If telling my son the truth instead of telling a pointless lie is harmful, report me to child services.

Interesting. The only people I know who tell their little children there is no Santa are Christians. Those poor folks are so deluded that they don't know the difference between a lie and fantasy.

I guess thar's not surprising. The don't know the difference between truth and fantasy either!

I guess it is more Christian like to lie to children and tell them there is a Santa Claus. If they lie about Santa what else to they lie about?

No, not as much as Christians enjoy telling their kids that old Auntie Jane is now in hell.
