Christians who don't like my celebrating it because I'm agnostic (just call it atheist if you don't know what it is), or non-Christians because I'm forcing a religious holiday down their throats? I'm only saying Merry Christmas because it's a commercial holiday and *there is nothing wrong with that!* Merry Christmas, may you enjoy the lights, and avoid the nativity scenes as much as possible!

Common Sense: Yes, a little bit. It implies that I need to be prayed for. But it's not something to be offended by so I don't really worry about it.

I don't like when people say it aggressively... almost like a challenge.
If you say Merry Christmas, you assume that the other person celebrates Christmas — often a fair bet, but not as guaranteed as it once was. As the religious pluralism of America increases, so must the sensitivity of its citizens. The fewer traditional Christians there are around, the less people can assume that everyone is celebrating the usual Christian holidays & doing the usual Christian things. It’s impolite to make assumptions about people you don’t know.
Some people are turning the phrase Merry Christmas into a fetish, something done for its own sake instead of using it as a sincere greeting. It’s an aggressive statement about one’s own identity that is thrown in the face of others as a challenge or even an insult. It’s not about defending religious meaning in Christmas, but defending a religious identity & a set of traditional privileges.

No one should be offended by Merry Christmas. It's only been a national holiday for over 130 years. Every American should celebrate it as they see fit. Most of us enjoy getting the time off with pay and spending time with friends and family. It's part of America.
Merry Christmas.

I believe the only people that you'll offend are the ones that are intolerant of others beliefs. I'm not a Christian and I could care less if someone said, "Merry Christmas", to me. Most people just say it because they're trying to be joyful and friendly. What's wrong with that? Who would get pissed off if I, a Wiccan, went around saying, "Happy Yule"? Like I said, those that are intolerant.

IMHO, if you don't celebrate Christmas, you should just mentally translate "Merry Christmas" into "Have a great day full of good cheer," or "Enjoy your day off work!"
And stop being a dick and accept it in the spirit it was intended. Nobody says, "Merry Christmas" in an effort to offend someone.
I don't get all pissy when someone wishes me a "happy (insert holiday I don't celebrate here)."

specific, I do. i'm no longer Christian and that i do no longer want you to anticipate i'm. it particularly is impolite, in spite of in case you mean it to be or no longer. there are a number of holiday trips being celebrated this time of three hundred and sixty 5 days. lots of them are the place your holiday traditions stem from. Your techniques-set and know-how are heavily incorrect. i'm sorry. i'm specific you mean nicely. i attempt to take it that way whilst human beings tell me, "Merry Christmas". yet once you relatively need to unfold excitement to me, you will say, "happy holiday trips". in case you do no longer care approximately my thoughts, in simple terms say no longer something in any respect. EDIT: Pshaaaa: Oh, get knowledgeable! The "X" in X-mas stands for Christ. The letter X in the Greek alphabet is and has been used to intend Christ for hundreds of years. it is not crossing Jesus out of Christmas. it particularly is in basic terms yet in any different case of spelling it.

LOL, I'm a Christian but I don't really care about nativity scenes because it's not a command from the bible to celebrate Jesus birth every year, only his death. Easter has more meaning.

I don't think most people of any sort are offended by 'Merry Christmas' as long as you're not being a jerk about it.

No one should be offended by any sincerely offered greeting. It is my feeling that anyone who is offended by it must not have much faith in their faith or lack of it. It should not be threatening or offensive to anyone who truly knows his own heart.
