Being someone who also teaches as a profession, I can say that it would be very much appreciated by the professor. I get cards from all of my classes and occasionally from individual students. This always means so much to me to know that I made a difference.

Many professors don't feel that this is inappropriate, but some might think so. If you are not sure about your professor's feeling on the subject, just wait until after he has officially given you a final grade. Then he should have no reason to have a problem with accepting the gift.
While it's true that in American culture, students don't usually give gifts to their teachers, this is totally appropriate in many other cultures. If your professor is familiar with your customs he may receive it in the spirit in which it's intended.

Thats NOT inappropriate. It's okay to get someone something that has helped you. I was very close to my high school counselor and he was also my previous psychology teacher and at the end of the year when I graduated, I bought him a gift and wrote him a letter thanking him for all of his help and support and I wished him luck for his future as a counselor. I still miss him to this day and by getting someone a gift, you could be making their day without even knowing it! I got this old lady I knew for a while from the bus stop a candle for Xmas knowing when my schedule changed for next quater, I wasn't going to see her anymore and I got it out of mere generosity because she's a VERY nice person and was someone nice to talk to while I waited for the bus for an hour. lol. It's okay. If you want to, do it, don’t take strangers' advice from the net if you have that much respect for him! Sorry I babbled on. Get him that token! lol

It would be appropriate as long as you do it AFTER the results have come in so people won't assume that you're doing it to get a high grades or something.
Take care.

After the course is over and you have already received your grade, then you should give him a card and/or gift. However, if it's before final grades are posted, it could be perceived as bribery and is bad judgment for you to give it as well as for him to receive it.

Giving the gift would be appropriate if you do that after you get your grade and that you not mention your grade while giving the gift.

This is a very respectful gesture and I think that he would find this as a very thoughtful gift as one adult to another.
