I understand you can only have a small amount on the plane with you. I'm wondering about the luggage that goes into the baggage compartment (shampoo, toothpaste, etc.).

You are allowed to check liquids

You can put whatever liquids you like in your checked luggage; it is your carry on luggage that has the restriction of 3 ounce bottles, and they must fit into a single clear zip lock bag so the inspectors can see them when you go through security.

You can put whatever sized liquids you want in your checked luggage.

But for the luggage you carry-on (to the plane) there's strict restrictions. See the following:
From the TSA website:

"Air travelers may now carry liquids, gels and aerosols in their carry-on bag when going through security checkpoints.

With certain exceptions for prescription and over-the-counter medicines, baby formula and breast milk, and other essential liquids, gels, and aerosols, the following rules apply to all liquids, gels, and aerosols you want to carry through a security checkpoint.

1. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be in three-ounce or smaller containers. Larger containers that are half-full or toothpaste tubes rolled up are not allowed. Each container must be three ounces or smaller.
2. All liquids, gels and aerosols must be placed in a single, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag. Gallon size bags or bags that are not zip-top such as fold-over sandwich bags are not allowed. Each traveler can use only one, quart-size, zip-top, clear plastic bag.
3. Each traveler must remove their quart-sized plastic, zip-top bag from their carry-on and place it in a bin or on the conveyor belt for X-ray screening. X-raying separately will allow TSA security officers to more easily examine the declared items."

I travelled this summer and they definitely do enforce the size of the bottles & the size of the zip-lock bag.

Yes. You may put non hazardous liquids in your checked luggage. Lighter fluid and such are out ... and will be removed when your checked luggage is screened (yes, it gets screened).

Put the stuff in your checked luggage. In Fact, I would leave the Parfum behind an buy stuff at the other end.

Yep, liquids can be checked in your checked luggage. Just nothing flammable.

Your regulars sizes of shampoo and toothpaste are fine in your checked luggage. Here's the US Transportation Security Administration's website with their list of permitted and prohibited items: http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm
