I obsess over things like movies and books, until they literally control my every thought at times. I have to sleep with the doors in my room arranged a certain way. I have an obsession with closed doors. I will close and reclose them until I hear a *Click*ing sound, and I absolutely cannot concentrate if a door is cracked open.
I don't jus obsess about small things, though. I am absolutely terrified of getting seriously ill or having an operation. I am terrified and fascinated with death, and I will mentally play out my own death, the death of a family member, or my reaction to the news that a close friend or pet is dead. I will do this several times, and I constantly worry about doing ANYTHING to put myself at risk. I constantly remind myself that I may be dead the next day.
Are these symptoms of any specific mental problem, or am I completely losing it, or am i just imagining that something is wrong?

Thanks, CarrieNationFan, but I really am saved. I understand that I shouldn't worry about these things, but I can't stop. I understand that there is no real need to fear death if you are saved, but I tend to fear anything new.

The more important thing is to go out and get help. Counseling and guidance. Your reaction to your issues is what is very NORMAL.. for what is going on...I put that in caps because people I work with tend to not realize that their reaction to a trying situation is normal. Now, how you deal with acknowledging a situation you are is really up to you. You have more control than you think. Think about the resources around you, help lines, friends, hobbies you enjoy...things that are outlets...It is grea that you enjoy music, but is that coping or is that giving you time to dwell and think more about how unhappy you are. Music is great as an initial distractant, but ultimately, you are your own superhero, save yourself, reach out, if your parents won't listen, search for teen help lines ... here is a number to call if needed - 866-TEENLINK - it is a start and they may be able to generate some resources. Keep in mind, you can only change yourself, others have to make that choice for themselves...you can let your folks know what your concerns are, but, ultimtely it is their choice to make themselves better... You are in a tough spot but it doesn't have to be the end, it can be the beginning of something better ... good luck

Sounds like obsessive compulsive disorder and an anxiety disorder. Seek help from your local mental health agency or get a referral from your doctor to a psychiatrist. Good Luck.

It does sound as if you may have OCD, but your obsessions about your death could be pointing to other disorders. You really should find someone to talk to. You don't want it to get to the point that you can't leave the house or lead a normal life.

I strongly recommend checking the Scriptures in your own copy of the Bible (each reference is a link, directly to the Scripture on-line). You may also want to check out the related articles listed upper-left of each article's text.

As far as a mental illness is concerned, it would be best to check with a therapist that practices behavioral therapy to deal with obsessions and compulsions. Things are as bad as we let them affect us, are you just noticing these things about yourself or have these things always bothered you? Do these ideas you have affect your quality of life? Ask yourself these questions when deciding to get help. Perhaps having someone help you control your obsessions and get in touch with your inner resources would be beneficial for you

You definitely have obsessive compulsive disorder and if I would take a deep breath, close my eyes, and tell someone you trust this sounds like a very series state of it so right now take a deep breath, relax and go tell someone you can trust.

I personally believe it's a spiritual problem. First, if you haven't asked Jesus into your heart and life, please do so today. You will have assurance of eternal life then and Jesus will give you a renewed mind and rearrange your priorities. Secondly; He tells us what to think on to have perfect peace and that is Him and all things honest, true and of a good report. People who had burned their minds out on drugs found that if they meditated on the Holy Scriptures daily their minds were renewed. Jesus really is the answer and the gospel is free of charge and salvation is for all who believe that Jesus came in the flesh, died for our sins, rose again the third day, and sits at the right hand of the Fathe making intercession for His children and is coming back for a church who has made herself ready. Don't you want to go to heaven and spend eternity with Him?
