I pull my split ends apart. My hair is very dry. I have tried every kind of mousterizing conditioner under the sun and I really don't want to cut my hair short. How do I get over this habit of peeling my split ends apart?

You need to start going to a professional so, they can get your hair healthy. After that ask your stylist what products work best for your hair and try to maintain it yourself. You have to get your ends cut for real. Even if you get a little cut at a time you need to get rid of those dead ends.

Put your hair up in a ponytail or something as much as you can. Keep it out of your reach. You will grow out of the habit after some time. Also, get those ends trimmed once in 6-8 weeks. And keep them protected, use a good leave-in conditioner on damp hair if your hair is so dry. That helps a lot. Apply a little more of that stuff on the ends once your hair is dry.

Here is my professional opinion sweetie, straight up (I am a prof. stylist):
It's difficult to not want to pick at split ends, but you're not helping those ends by picking and peeling them.
Firstly, you need to get a trim. If you have severe split ends, I suggest at least an inch, but if the thought of cutting that much off freaks you out, then start with a half inch trim all over. Keep up on regular half inch trims until you get your hair into better condition.
In addition to regular trims, if your hair is dry, you need to be using a shampoo and conditioner that support dry hair. But firstly you need to figure out why your hair is dry. If your hair is naturally dry, then a simple moisture shampoo/conditioner will do, I suggest Redken Clear Moisture. If it is dry because it is curly, then an anti-frizz shampoo (Redken Smooth Down) is better. If your hair is dry because it is chemically damaged (i.e. color or perming) or mechanically damaged (i.e. blowdryer, flat iron, using a brush to comb wet hair...) then I suggest a protein infused shampoo and conditioner (Redken Extreme).
On top of a proper shampoo and conditioner regimen, I also suggest a deep conditioning treatment once a week. If it is possible, do it on the weekend where it can be left in for an extended period of time, I like to suggest leaving it in over night and rinsing out in the morning. Redken Extreme Deep Fuel is excellent. Redken Anti-Snap is also an excellent every-day treatment you can use on your ends before you blow dry to combat those split ends.
I hope this is of help, and for those that suggested Pantene Pro-V...don't be fooled by appearances. The only reason that people are convinced that Pantene is such a great product is because it coats the hair with wax. I can tell you from experience that I have seen the build up on hair that Pantene causes. Professional products are the only way to go. I know that I only suggested Redken products, but it is because I work solely with Redken in my salon having seen the proof that it works, but if you would like other salon brand suggestions, please feel free to contact me. Love your hair and it'll love you back!!!

whenever u find urself abt to pick one, ask urself if its rly worth all the damage... thats what i did and i stopped. keep using good moisturizing conditioner and use a deep condit. once a week. u HAVE to get the ends cut off- you can't really fix the damage, not to the point where its anywhere near healthy anyway!

Fixing the hair: short trim.

Habit: Reward urself with an IPod or something if u don't peel for a whole year or something.

Trim them. And put some olive oil for half an hour before you take a shower. Also put some vitamin E on your conditioner.

Get a trim. in case you you've chop up ends, and worse when you're pulling or figuring out on them, it breaks off your hair and stops it from getting to any extent further. a good type of persons who're attempting to boost out their hair attempt to ward off getting trims, yet it truly is between the worst belongings you may do in case you want your hair to boost. you'll finally end up having to diminish of an excellent few inches of damaged hair in a while. also, attempt to apply products that ward off chop up ends (yet once you've them, the in problem-free words thanks to eliminate them is with a trim, so get a trim first) and reduce you warmth styling, and different unfavorable issues. good luck.
