I thought so my self until my 25 year old daughter ended up with a mass in her kidney, they thought it a kidney stone at first, she was a pretty sick girl. After so many test's that I can't even count and many sleepless nights, It turned out to be a cyst, One was also found on her Spleen. Just say your prayer's that it's just a benign tumor or cyst. The spleen can be removed, it is one of the couple of organs you can live a normal life without. I wish I knew what made you have to go to the doctor in the first place, what symptoms you were having.. I wish you all the luck in the world,, these are words no one wants to hear .. But I think you will be ok and I will say a prayer for you tonight .. GOOD LUCK TO YOU..

Primary splenic tumors are exceedingly rare. The good news is that most primary splenic tumors are benign. However, lymphoma of the spleen and metastatic (tumors that have migrated from a primary tumor elsewhere in the body) tumors can occur. These lesions can be life-threatening.

Do you know what study was performed to diagnose your tumor? In all liklihood what will be suggested to you is to have your spleen removed surgically for pathologic diagnosis and possibly cure. They may also want to obtain a CT-PET scan which shows where tumors are located and their metabolic activity.

Myself, I have never seen a primary splenic tumor, but I have seen lymphoma in the spleen. I reviewed the medical literature briefly and most articles on splenic tumors are retrospective case series. Most showed a 50-50 split on benign and malignant lesions. Benign tumors are usually hamartomas. Malignant tumors were either lymphomas or metastatic tumors from the lung, stomach, or pancreas. Seeing an oncologist is a good idea. They can help sort out what you have based on imaging and biopsy (usually done as a total splenectomy). Good luck to you.

Yes. My teenage son has a rare abdominal sarcoma that invaded his spleen among other areas. His sarcoma has no primary site of origin and presents as multiple masses within the abdominal cavity. Most of his tumors were 'peeled' off the organs in his body during surgery, but they had to remove the entire spleen because the tumor had invaded the tissue.

It hasn't seemed to bother him health wise. He had to be vaccinated against pneumococcal pneumonia and also received two other vaccines and a flu shot every year. He takes Penicillin V and Bactrim every day.

Do you have any other symptoms? Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma can start in the lymphoid tissue found in the spleen.

I've got a mass IN my spleen, but not ON it. Mine was part of my Lymphoma. The spleen is part of the Lymphatic system. They did not remove my spleen though. I went all through my chemo, and it's still there, but it hasn't changed in size, so we're just watching it.
Here's a site with info on Lymphoma, if you want to see if any of that applies to you:

No, tumours are no longer continuously cancerous. Many tumours are benign, which skill they're atypical growths that don't yet coach any sign of metastasizing or transforming into to be cancerous. you may would desire to look ahead to a biopsy to substantiate.
