Ask your primary doctor to refer you to a specialist for a nerve root injection (you'll probably need an MRI first). It's a simple and safe procedure that should give you a few weeks or months or pain relief.

You could also ask for another medication to supplement the Lortab. Amitriptylline and gabapentin are the two most commonly used. These (esp. gabapentin) can also be a little bit sedating but less so than Lortab. Actually, with regular usage you will accomodate to the sedative effect of Lortab pretty quickly.

I find that anti-inflammatory pain relievers like Motrin (ibuprofen) and Aleve (naproxen) are almost always useless in sciatica.

I had this from about weeks 35 with my second son. I wish I could give you a magic cure, but in the end he had to be induced because it was giving me so much pain. I hope you don't have to go through the same thing, but I would mention it to your midwife if the pain is too much to bear. I got to the point where attacks would leave me sitting in the middle of the road or on the kitchen floor holding trays of hot food. Never let it get as bad as it was with me, it's just not worth the danger and the discomfort. Now I'm almost 14 weeks + 6 with my third, and I've been experiencing sciatica again, although to a much lesser degree at such an early stage. I told my midwife straight away about what had happened with my last baby, and she has had me referred to both physiotherapy and a maternity acupuncturist. Hopefully this will help. I wonder if something like this wold be a viable option for you if they can get you an appointment quickly enough? Good luck with your bundle of joy and I hope you have some relief from the pain soon!

I am suffering from Sciatica now and have been for almost two months.I was given Relafan for the inflamation along with Flexeril for muscle relaxation. But these are not helping. I cannot take anything stronger for pain because of heart problems. I take Aleve during the day, and at night I take an Excedrin PM with a xanax which helps me sleep with the pain. I use a heating pad, and sometimes a cold compress. I know your pain, I haven't been pain free in two months. I was told it takes a few weeks for the body to repair the disc, but I do know it hurts. Good Luck to you.

The only thing that worked for me, is taking halves every now and then. Before bedtime and after your test, along with Tylenol when it really flares. I know the pain well. You know you might want to try to sleep with a pillow under your knees if you sleep on your back, If you can sleep sideways then put the pillow between your legs. I don't want to sound religious but spirituality works for me, I pray and meditate.I like to pray the Rosary.
By the way I use to take 2 and a half pills every 4 hrs. now I'm pill free, not pain free, but I'm not in the fog all the time.

Have you heard about Mobic or Aleve? These two could help your inflammation around the nerve. Motrin or Ibuprofen ( same things ) could also help the inflammation and the pain. You could take up to 800mg of motrin if you needed to . Hope this helps alittle! :)

Take some motrin to reduce the swelling, it will also help with the pain. You can also alternate between hot and cold compresses.

seek help from a massage therapist or acupuncturist even- they'll take some of the pain away, if not fix the problem within a couple of sessions.
