I wish there was an easy answer to this question.
Educating the community is a big step.
Educating other children (so they can see if their school mates are showing warning signs)
Neighorhoods need to come together, even if it's block by block.
Unfortunately domestic violence is a major "step 1" to child abuse. If there's a child in the house, physical abuse is easy to commit.
If you see something, say something. There are state hotlines against child abuse - physical or sexual. Usually State Police have this info. Check your phonebook or state website. Use the number and call if you suspect a child is being abused. Call the local police.
I know it will be a long time before the violence is eliminated, but if we DO something to try to prevent it and DO something when we see it happening, we're at least going in the right direction.

This is one subject that is very sensitive to me. I am a mother of 2 young children and I could never imagine harming them. When you look at the statics of abused children it is horrific! I do not understand how someone can go through 9 months (+or-) of pregnancy and hurt your own child! A person who demonstrates such an act should be severely punished. I am not against the death penalty! Perhaps there should be some type of "screening" at the obstetricians office. Perhaps a "drop box" at the hospital if you truly believe you will be a terrible parent. I can go on and on about this subject. As it is one that truly disturbs me. Good Luck in resolving this question.

I truly believe in the death penalty. Yes, 90% of molesters, rapist etc. were abused as children. They were robbed of their childhood, their innocense. But that does not give them the right to do this to other children. They have to be stopped . The viciouse cycle has to be brought to an end somewhere, or at least be a "priority" SOMEWHERE. For starters, they can stop letting sex offenders live literally on top of or right niext door to schools. Where were the peoples heads at when they passed that law making that ok, as long as their registered? Their are 500,000 sex offenders living in the us. 100,000 thousand of them arent registard. HELLO, these children are our future and deserve an innocent childhood. Death penalty x's 10. Nothing more, nothing less! I could'nt imagin my child being violated in ANY way. Seriously, I dont believe any counseling will help these,!@#$%%^&*. If so 400,000 of them would'nt be repeat offenders!

tougher rules and better state agencys to protect them. I have a cousin that has two children and since she's their mom and she gets called everytime someone with family services makes an appt. to stop by - nothing ever happens because for that hour she is "a good mom" and picks up after them and feds them. Other than that - she's not following her probation, she's tempted stabbing her mother and herself with a knife, and the only time she holds her children is when someone has irratated her and she jerks them out of our hands and leaves with them crying for us. States need to change and better their laws!!!

Give up this cro magnon idea of the nukuliar family. People need people; especially within the family.
Allow children more rights! (Let them vote, for starters.)
Kill your T.V. (That'd be a second big step.)

Education, education, education.
Reprogram the offenders. Rehabilitate, if at all possible. In a perfect world, anyway. The percentages of re-offending are high in child abuse.

Have the death penalty in every state and use it!!!!! Stop all plea bargains, in the court system. People always say the death penalty does not detour them, It will one at a time.
