From all the biology and geology courses I've taken, from the research I've seen, and from the conversations I've had, it seems like the only place evolution is still being debated is on Y!A R&S section....Is this the view of the entire Christian community? Do other religions still doubt evolution? Or is this just a small number of Christians here?

((I apologize if this seems mean-spirited, I am honestly wondering the answers to these questions, not trying to make a point))

There is no debate among scientists, although there are people who would tell you it is being debated, that simply isn't so. Can't put it simpler than that.

Actually a lot of the answers here are not correct. Textbooks don't always tell the whole story. The fact of the matter is there are a growing number of scientists who believe in creation. I can think of at least several off the top of my head including Michael Denton/Microbiologist, Michael Behe/Biochemist, Byron Meadows/NASA, Kenneth Tanaka/Geologist, Enrique Hernandez-Lemus/Physicist and I could keep on going.

The point here is that the idea that scientist themselves agree on Evolution as correct is not true.

But there is one constant you'll always find. Those who believe in evolution always say it is "Fact and a non-debatable truth" and they have faith in that. Then you have what you may call the creationist who will fight to the end to defend creation because they have faith in it.

The evolutionist says the fossil record proves evolution. (Although I think you could look at the fossil record and be able to interpret at least a dozen theories) The creationist says the complexity of life and the whole universe proves design. Both are great points.

Either way you look at it, it just comes down to what you have faith in. And what you have faith in you just know is truth. Neither though have been proven as fact before our eyes. It all comes down to what you have faith in.

There are scientists that are changing their evolution theory..to creationism. I read about it all the time....atheist scientists finding proof that we have a creator. I could give 100 reasons why we didn't evolve from apes. and amoeba...100 scientists could back me up. I have done my studies too, am very smart and educated, so I am not ignorant, nor retarded and crazed. People are stubborn...they want to believe in evolution, they are going to believe it. I guess I am "one of those" in the eyes of quite a few of you, but that is OK. with me. I have a creator, and I am not ashamed of that. Evolution is a joke. Do a search on proof of creationism...or scientific proof of God...etc. This HAS been studied and found to be true by many. Remember when thalidomide was thought to be wonderful and lots of women took it. Well, it was later shown to be horrible. Just because it was believed to be ok at first ( evolution) doesn't mean it was so. I truely believe in my heart, as time goes on more and more proof of divine creation will surface. The bible is being PROVEN true all the time by science.
Go ahead and thumbs down me. I am not ashamed of the truth, nor do I care what truely confused and ill informed people think of me!

Many reputable scientists do as well. Most don't believe in Creation-ISM, and they aren't Creation-ISTS, but they have have gone on record to say that they believe in Intelligent Design, and Creation rather than evolution.

Many people of science, reputable, tenured professors of huge universities have gone on record as believing in a Creator and intelligent design. There are xenogeologists in charge of tests in Mars Missions, Microbiologists, you name it. Alton Williams (Nuclear Physicist who worked as an astrophysicist at the George C. Marshall Space Flight Center of NASA, associated with the Chandra X-ray telescope. Bob Hosken, a biochemist in Australia, Andrey Dmitriyevich Sakharov, Nuclear Physicist, Russia. Andrew McIntosh, Mathematician, Wales, United Kingdom. Many of whom are members of organizations like NASA, ESA, professors of major universities, you name it. The list goes on and on.

Usually, it's poor lay people, like some here, that are misled by a simple few scientists into believing that "no" scientist believes in creation. Which isn't true. (not creation-ISM, which is different. I agree with Big Pappa on the topic of Creationists). Many, many scientists believe in creation. However, like the Dark Ages, when a scientist makes a new discovery, even other scientists will riducule them.

Edit: Wish we could make "notes" in the areas we give "Thumbs up" to. One guy above, I don't agree with his statements, but he at least presented his thoughts in a responsible, respectful and clear manner, so I had to give him a thumbs up dispite disagreeing with him.

I had to give a thumbs up to the person asking the question, simply because he asked an honest question in such a sincere manner.

The folks who say: "It isn't debated" but can't cite a source? A scientists own words? I'm sorry . . .

Tim (below) brings out a good point. Usually, the people who are extremists are those who say: THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THERE IS NO ROOM FOR DEBATE!!! Notice how many laypeople who believe in evolution are saying this? As do some extremist creationists?

Michael Behe was interviewed recently in an issue of Awake! He made an interesting comment:

Why is it, despite all of the criticism leveld my way in the last 10 years, no one has applied the scientific method and come up with a published hypothesis to disprove my scientific findings?

Evolution theory is really not the slam dunk you make it out to be. Even if we agree that humans evolved from a succession of various forms and species and whatever that leaves the biggest question unanswered, namely What did the first living thing evolve from? There must have been a first living thing. Right?

The only place it is being debated is in the public forums. In the science forums, there is no debate: It's a settled issue. Nor is it a dominant view of the Christian community: Only a very loud, well funded minority has a problem with it.

In the US, there are just a few loud-mouthed Christians who cherrypick data, use empty rhetoric, and just plain lie over a political point. It is not about science. It is not about religion, itself, but how to get it into public schools. As you can see, the debate is not about the subject.

Debates are a joke forced on us by those that orchestrate it. The same ones that host it.

Maybe evolution didn't happen the way we think it did. We can still find enough evidence that it has and is happening.

I always thought everyone believed dinosaurs existed millions of years ago until I came across Yahoo! Answers. Now I feel like more and more Americans believe the earth is only 6,000 years old.

Pope John Paul II said that evolution should not be argued since there is proof. That was in 1992.
