Norton Ghost can be used to make a file that contains the entire content of your hard drive. That can be stored on DVD or an external drive. Should your hard drive die, you can completely recreate it from the file. It can also be used for day to day backups and system restores, buts own system restore is easier to use.

If you make an image file of your hard drive, you want to update (by recreating) that file frequently so it does not get too out of date.

Check the "Helps" in the program. It will have a tutorial to show you how to use it.

I think How my college uses it is to make a backup copy of a functional version of an operating system and then if a pc goes down they can simply use the ghosted copy of the system and place the functional copy on the pc. Its also good if you have more than one pc (office) and have to have them all up to speed with the same tools and patches.

I think thats what it does and how the software works. Backing up stuff.
hope this helps ;)

Ghost makes a bit by bit duplicate of a hard drive or the same duplication as an IMAGE file. You can hook up a new drive and it will duplicate the old one EXACTLY. That is nice when you want to upgrade to a bigger drive . Ghost has been used for DECADES.
