Hi I am a Seventh-Day Adventist
In Exodus 16 God told the Israelites that they should collect extra manna on Friday so they did not have to do it on the Sabbath. From this we see that God wants you to take steps so that you can spend the Sabbath focusing fully on Him.
Many times in the New Testament Jesus healed people on the Sabbath Luke 13, because he said that it was a time for blessing.
We should do all that we can before the Sabbath comes so that when we enter into the Sabbath we can fully rest and focus on God, however in the case of emergency or need there is an exception.
Many people have a problem, people do not know what a need is. People confuse what they want with what they need. Do you really NEED to cash the paycheck, will someone be hurt or some other serious problem arise, if not then why not wait?
The apostles did not embalm Jesus body because the Sabbath was approaching, and they knew it could wait.
Daniel refused to break God's law and God blessed Him and saved him from the Lion's Den. I am a college student and there have been times my friends and I needed to study or finish a project just as the Sabbath time came, and the first thing you think is "I NEED to do this, it is important." But we decide to put it off to keep the Sabbath. Test God see if He will not "Honor those who honor Him" I Samuel 2:30.
A pastor gave an example of how to keep the Sabbath. "If a young man falls in love with a young woman and because of their schedules they can only see each other one day a week. He will do everything he can to make sure all that he has to do is finished before that day. If they are on their date and she keeps looking at her watch saying 'Is our date over yet I have some stuff I WANT to do.' how would he feel?"
"How to Keep the Sabbath" 2 part sermon on the Sabbath.
Here is a free online video that talks about your question it is called "Laboring to Rest" The Pastor talks about preparing for the Sabbath and how to keep it Holy

I must respectfully disagree with Father K
The Sabbath is not only for the Jews nor is it the "Jewish Sabbath was given to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden Genesis 2:1-3 if they are Jews we all are Jews.
In addition in the book of Isaiah, God calls it "My holy day" it is not the Jewish Sabbath
Acts 20:7 never says that this never says that the Sabbath should no longer be observed, in addition it does not say that this is a new day of worship, nor does it say that it was a continuous meeting time
I Corinthians 16:2 talks about collecting money but it never says, ignore the Sabbath, keep Sunday holy, the verse does not even say that they MET. It just says on the first day everyone should set aside some of their wages.
If you read verse 3 you see this verse is talking about collecting money for the famine in Jerusalem (Acts 11:28-30)
Revelation 1:10 Only says I was in the spirit on the Lord's Day. No where in the Bible does it ever called Sunday the Lord's day. There are only two days called "Lord's Day" the Sabbath and the 2nd coming. Jesus said "I am Lord of the Sabbath" Mark 2:28, "Sabbath of the Lord" Exodus 20:8, "My Holy day" Isaiah 58:13
Colossians 2:16-17
is talking about ceremonial Sabbath days like Passover and the Day of Atonement. These are different from the 7th day Sabbath vs 17 says what the difference is
"Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ."
The Passover symbolizes Jesus sacrifice, The Day of Atonement also symbolizes Jesus sacrifice and our salvation, but the 7th day Sabbath points back to creation. "Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy (Why?) Because in 6 days God created the Heavens and the earth and all that in them is."
Revelation 14 says that 3 messages go out to the world right before the end comes. The first message says worship the creator and then it quotes the 4th commandment.
David R makes some excellent points

Here you go:
Some religious organizations (Seventh-Day Adventists, Seventh-Day Baptists, and certain others) claim that Christians must not worship on Sunday but on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath. They claim that, at some unnamed time after the apostolic age, the Church "changed" the day of worship from Saturday to Sunday.
However, passages of Scripture such as Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 16:2, Colossians 2:16-17, and Revelation 1:10 indicate that, even during New Testament times, the Sabbath is no longer binding and that Christians are to worship on the Lord’s day, Sunday, instead.
The early Church Fathers compared the observance of the Sabbath to the observance of the rite of circumcision, and from that they demonstrated that if the apostles abolished circumcision (Gal. 5:1-6), so also the observance of the Sabbath must have been abolished. The following quotations show that the first Christians understood this principle and gathered for worship on Sunday.

Well opinions is all that has been given to you so far along with a total misunderstanding of the scriptures by those who have tried to answer your question.
Exodus 20:8-11 explains what the Sabbath is all about. Most non-Sabbath keepers will jump on this one making the claim that it is a “Jewish” Sabbath. Well, for one, those who where given the Ten Commandments “Ten Words” where not “Jews”, they where the Children of Israel. The “Jews” did not come until generations later.
Another point is that if one where to look at the 11th verse you will easily see that reference to creation. Read Gen 2:1-3. Also read Revelation 14:7 yet another reference to creation.
There are those who want to make the FALSE claim that the Sabbath was done away with in the NT. Well did not Christ also rest on the Sabbath day before he was raised from the grave? Read Mark 16:1-3, It was after the Sabbath day that Christ was risen from death. Interesting that God, the one who wrote the Ten Words with His own finger would not raise His son during the Sabbath hours.
Also not that it was God, Jehovah. Who blessed the SEVENTH day and made it holy. While mere men have endeavored to make “Sunday” seem holy and the day of rest.
They love to use a couple of verses like, Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 16:2, Colossians 2:16-17, to try to prove that the Sabbath was changed. Well what man can change the Law or Testimony of God? No man can do this, not even the dear old papa.
Read the verses very carefully, and you will see that it never states or hints to that the Sabbath was transferred over to the 1st day of the week.
Read the verse in order as written below, then answer the question that follows, you or anyone can email me what they will.
Revelation 14:12 “Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.”
Notice that it is the Saints that KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS OF GOD (not men) who the Bible calls Saints.
Revelation 22:14 “Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.”
Notice here that only those that KEEP the COMMANDMENTS have the right to the tree of life and can entire into the city (New Jerusalem).
1 John 2:1-6, “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
2And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
4He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.
5But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him.
6He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”
Notice here that if you do not keep the Commandments of God (and of Christ, which are the same commandments) and you claim that you know Christ, which means that you say that you are a “Christian or follow Christ” YOU ARE A LIAR.
Now where do the liars end up?
Read Revelation 22:15 “For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.”
Note, here they are outside of the New Jerusalem waiting to be destroyed.
John 14:15 “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”
Do you love Christ, how can you if you do not keep the Sabbath or have replaced it with a false Sabbath day?
Yes Christ and the disciples picked food to eat on the Sabbath. Is that work, Christ taught that we are to keep the “spirit” of the law as well as the letter of the law. There was no gain in what they did.
Matthew 12:8 “For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.”
Christ did not say he was the Lord of the “1st day but the Sabbath day, which is the 7th day of the week.
Christ healed on the Sabbath day and He taught and many other things on the Sabbath day, NEVER did He do this for His gain but to teach us the “spirit” of the Law.
The 1st four Commandments teach us how to Love God and the next six teach us how to love our fellow men. Study the Commandments and you will see.
Now, here is my question, why not keep the Sabbath day that the Almighty God established? Why keep the day that a man has established in its place?
Yes it is wrong to work or to make others work on the Sabbath of God, which was made for us to have true fellowship with the Almighty and like believers.
WHO DO YOU SERVE, MEN OR GOD????????????

God didnt create the calender or the clock, ever observe those extra suitable hours we forget approximately each and each 12 months? In a manner everytime we rejoice a bounce 12 months we push the sabbath returned that day we upload on. i think of we could constantly bypass with Saturdays. It feels so incorrect to paintings on a Saturday. Offhandedly, comprehend how many human beings bypass homestead after church on a Sunday and do yardWORK. not too many human beings surely repsect the sabbath.

And a blessed holy day to you as well.
My wife and I practice a Christian Sabbath. We recognize that Jesus said the Sabbath was made for us - our benefit; not for some legalistic interpretation. Although we avoid shopping, we will stop for an item if it saves a trip/environment later. Normally we prefer not to eat out on Sunday, but will do so with friends, recognizing the gift of hospitality in the Bible knew no limit.
If the Sabbath is used as one more day to survive modern stress - that would not be its intention. Your call.

I think that these verses in the New Testament give some insight about this:
At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath, and His disciples became hungry and began to pick the heads of grain and eat.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 But when the Pharisees saw this, they said to Him, "Look, Your disciples do what is not lawful to do on a Sabbath."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3 But He said to them, "Have you not read what David did when he became hungry, he and his companions,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4 how he entered the house of God, and they ate the consecrated bread, which was not lawful for him to eat nor for those with him, but for the priests alone?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5 "Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath and are innocent?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6 "But I say to you that something greater than the temple is here.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7 "But if you had known what this means, 'I DESIRE COMPASSION, AND NOT A SACRIFICE,' you would not have condemned the innocent.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8 "For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath."
