Just your being renounces atheism! You people go far and wide to disprove creation, much less God. If they, would they, could they... I'm still waiting for anyone with a shred of evidence to disprove God in any aspect! They come, they challenge, the fall away, or become Christian. Josh McDowell is a good example. As an atheist, he tried for a years to trash Christianity, and he is no dummy. He was/is honest to say, "I can't disprove it, it's all true! I'm a believer!" And he looked at Christianity in a scholarly way! How about Steven Hawking? He caved in too under its all-consuming weight!
Have you studied in any way?? Or were you also suckered into the DaVinci Code too? Poor slob.
Even the fool says that there is no God! Or put it this way, "Even the flea says that there is no dog!"

Why should Christians admit they were "wrong"? Faith simply isn't a matter of right and wrong-it's a matter of choice and conscience.
Evolution shows the universe wasn't made in 7 days, but that hasn't stopped Jews and Christians from practicing their religions, even though it is contrary to the Bible and the Torah.
Besides, to be Christian is to be "Christ-like" and rests on the believe Jesus died for the sins of mankind. I really don't think anything will ever prove or disprove that for a true Christian.

of course, Christianity is based on truth, historical evidence. We don't believe because it's simple, or at least we shouldn't. We believe because we believe it to be true. Our faith is not some childish blind faith in God but is based on the testimony of other people and well documented historical writings.
If someone has evidence to the contrary I would be happy to hear it. Paul said that if Jesus wasn't the Son of God then we (christians) are wasting our time. Christians shouldn't be closing our eyes to criticism but always continue in truth. So if there ever is proof that the Bible is wrong then tell me
but the evidence against the Bible would have to be good, and so far there hasn't been any hard evidence

Nope!! Nothing other than God himself looking me in the face telling me that my beliefs are wrong. There have been too many things that I have witnessed in my life and the lives of others for me to believe in anything but my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Let me ask you this, what if at the end of your life you found out you are wrong and then I'm am sure you know the outcome of that. It sounds like it would only be possible for you to believe, in your lifetime, if there was cold hard proof laid right in front of you. That's the difference in Christians and non-Christians............the thing that keeps us believing is FAITH and I'll tell you, that's good enough for me.

There is nothing now or ever that will cause me to not believe!!!
What you fail to understand is God's Spirit, You can't see it, but you can feel it. If you read the Holy Bible, you will come across many verses that teach about the Holy Spirit of God. Just read this one of many verses that are in the Bible.
Jesus Christ said this in the book of Revelation, starting with Ch.3:20
Behold, I stand at the door and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will COME IN TO HIM, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that hath an ear; let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
It is God's Spirit that every true born again believer has living inside them, that gives us all the proof we will ever need. I have a brain, I am a smart person, I have no doubts whatsoever.
When a person believes God's word, the Bible, believes Jesus Christ died on the cross for them, confesses he is a sinner, and invites Jesus Christ to come in to their heart, then God will put his Holy Spirit inside you. No more wondering!

if you are assuming that Christians are a bunch of people who do not think & do not process information as someone like you might (maybe because you believe you have a higher IQ or something) then your question makes sense.
i do not think that you are assuming that all Christians are "irrational" for i know that you are aware that some do have a higher learning & are actually physicists, biologists, astromoners, physicians, etc. etc.
okay, but Christians like any other person of any faith system can fall in one of several different categories or may fall in different levels of faith (regardless of their level of intelligence)
1. he might be someone who have just recently believed on the Gospel message -- so even the tiniest of doubt can turn him from his new found faith
2. he might be someone who was born & raised a Christian but is not actually a Christian (yes some people might call some of these as having a form of religion or are religious)
3. he might be someone whose faith has been tested (& retested) & have actually weighted proofs & evidence for & against his faith & who remained faithful to his faith
4. or he might be someone whose faith is strong but when faced with such actual proof as what you have specificied would actually be convinced that his faith system is wrong...
though it is good to hear that you would renounce atheism if there is actually real proof that there is a God... so i believe it is actually the same as for any normal person of faith when they are faced with actual real proof against their faith

"For example, if we one day discovered that our planet, all life on earth, even our entire solar system, was constructed by an immensely advanced alien civilization..."
Then that immensely advanced alien civilization would be what we knew as God, it would still only prove that we were created by something other than a BIG bang. So until God tells me I am wrong I will believe and stand strong in my faith, and we know this could not happen.God is real I feel the love of God in every breath I take.

I wonder why, as an athiest, you believe you are the JUDGE who evaluates God. Wouldn't that logically make you more intelligent and worthy of divineness? The prover is greater than the proved.
None of your scenarios are particularly objectionable - we too believe in life after death, just that we, unlike the Buddists don't have to get there ourselves. The Bible - check out how it was put together - in a scholarly tome - and your scenario is no great shock. Aliens? No big problem. Jesus hinted at such.
The real issue is how you handle who decides God w/o becoming such. Check out Pascal's Wager in The Pensees.

Hehe very good question dude, I'm an atheist myself, and I would gladly answer the reverse question if a religious person posed it to me. You see, many of the people here are so blind in their faith, that they can't even step back and ask "what if?" I'm not saying that atheists are automatically more objective than religious people though, as I've seen my share of stupid atheists. I just thought I'd compliment you on question. Maybe if you ask it again, put the stress on the fact that it's a hypothetical and less on trying to find an event that could make them question it. It would be even funnier to see someone just outright refuse to answer a hypothetical. Now THAT would be blind.
