Windows XP serves all of my needs. What will I get with Windows Vista that'll make it worth the purchase?

Security and stability.

There's a few relatively minor updates to the user interface, nothing I would consider a must have. But the core of Vista has been designed to be FAR more resistant to viruses and malware. In addition, the entire graphics subsystem has been rewritten which should help improve stability.

It's kinda like buying a car. That pinto may still look nice and drive great... but it doesn't have air bags, anti-lock breaks, traction control, and it's not a hybrid that gets 45 miles to the gallon. Do you want to be safe or do you want to save the money?

You'll be guaranteed that the newest software is functional on your system and that all the newest security updates are available on your plate.

try the new vista rc1 download and see if anything benefits your needs , if not hold off in till next year when it will start reminding you security patches are stopping and to upgrade.

no need to rush if its its not going to help you functionally.

You can have the best of both worlds, just install Vista on a seperate partition on the same hard disk.

In a word: NO

It sucks up memory and CPU like mad and you really need 2 cores in the CPU and 2 Gigs of RAM to use it.

You are better off with SimplyMEPIS or Kubuntu. This is being typed out on Kubuntu 6 and it can do most of what M$ sells for FREE!
