I am totally against forcing ones beliefs onto others and i have nothing but pure hope that you find what youre looking for.... but all i want to suggest is that...
when looking for a religion/belief, try to avoid picking it solely upon whether or not it is convienent.

You can believe whatever you want. You can go caffeteria style Christianity or Paganism or whatever.
If you are looking for permissiveness, Crowley's "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law".
In my religion, there is one simple rule, descended from Crowley that says "An it harm none, do what thou wilt", but even this is deceptively simple.
So what's your idea of strict? Confusing?
Are you saying you want the Christian Salvation without the Bible?
Are you saying you want a faith that lets you do what you want without repurcussion?
People do that in any religion. Some Catholics go on thinking they can do whatever they want, receiving absolution by telling a priest every now and again.
Some people hang on to Christianity loosely, thinking they'll accept Jesus when they're done playing around.
Some people play at versions of Wicca, not realizing the sense of responsibility it implies.
Others look to Satanism as a hedonistic permissive life.
In the end though, I think you get what you work for. Even in Christianity, where salvation isn't through works, James said "Faith without works is dead". Much of the New Testament tells Christians that while their salvation isn't through works, that those works aren't unimportant.
I think that whatever religion you choose, if it's going to make a difference in your life, it's important enough to study and to strive and to work. Whatever you treat cheaply you'll probably not take seriously.

Great question, I know when I was seeking I first got clear on what I believed about God and the Universe as a whole. Once I did that what I was looking for found me. If you don't mind doing a little reading check out "Conversations with God" and "A Return to Love." They will help you get clear on what you think. I follow the teachings of "A Course in Miracles." Its not preachy at all and guides you to realizing that Only Love is Real.

That's a good research topic. Something simple. How about the religion of "do unto others as you would have them do unto you"? But you mean a group to belong to, so I found the Quakers a simple society. They sit in a circle and don't say anything unless something prompts them to do so. No preaching or proselytizing...

How about one that is true? Wouldn't that be a better criteria? How about one where you do not have to do anything to receive eternal life, it has all been done? All beliefs have a system of works in order to gain eternal life, nirvana, etc., only one says the work is done, the payment made, it is finished. Can you guess which one I speak of?

I guess when you meet God you're going to tell him that you wanted to believe in Him and His plan...but only if it didn't interfere with you having fun? lol Just kidding. Actually His plan is very easy to understand, it is man that has screwed it up and made it difficult. Now what do you mean too strict...like you still want to smoke and drink and screw around...but just not get into trouble for it? There are reasons for his commandments. They are for OUR benefit. If we choose to ignore them, then we are limiting our agency. If we choose to keep them, then we have the happiness and contentment He wants for us.

Christianity is based on faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for the salvation of mankind. Jesus was the promised messiah and king prophesied about throughout the Old Testament and the New Testament is the explaination and revelation of His coming and that He will come again.
We put our faith in Jesus Christ that He died on the cross for our sins and rose from the dead to cover our sins forever and that we might also overcome sin and death. He will forgive us for our sins and bring us into new life in Christ. We leave our old life of sin behind and walk on in newness of life in Christ.
John 14.6 "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No man comes to the Father except by me."
Romans 10.9-11 "9 If you use your mouth to say, "Jesus is Lord," and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, you will be saved. 10 We believe with our hearts, and so we are made right with God. And we use our mouths to say that we believe, and so we are saved. 11 As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be disappointed."
Hope that helps.

Don't conform yourself to a specific religion. Or, I know Judaism isn't that strict, at least I don't think so.

Do you want to believe in something based on how easy it is? If so, call yourself an agnostic. Even atheism is a belief so that's your best bet.
