Times square is just a tourist trap filled with all chain joints. Do all you people coming to NYC stick to the times Sq. area? It is completely not representative of NYC.

I think the fact that it is a tourist trap is 100% of its appeal. Look at it this way: where would all of these Midwestern and foreign tourists with those big, conspicuous cameras and maps feel safest? In the place they are most familiar with, of course!

Everyone who comes to NYC knows what Times Square looks like and can use it to orient themselves within the city. It's a badge of honor for small-town folk. Like, "hey I survived the city."

But anyway, do we really want confused tourists wandering around "our" part of Manhattan, anyway? I'm going to say no.

because NYC is Manhattan. Times Square is Manhattan... im from Queens, not NYC.
