My local community college offers classes...go talk to a counselor. Good luck. The world needs more people that want to help and be an Ambulance driver!! I can only imagine the stress!! Be really careful when you are driving there are a very few out there that just don't care and also I have thought before that if you (the ambulance driver) and another driver that is taking their family member to the hospital are both in a hurry to save a life you are the more trained one and they aren't thinking about getting off the road for you they are thinking about getting their loved one to the hospital...and they are on the same road you are on to get to the emergency entrance. I'm sure that ambulance drivers are told to be careful the closer they get to the hospital for cases just like this one. Good luck I hope you get it and like the job!!

I did it by going to my local Rescue Squad. They offered a course for would-be volunteers. It was a good basic start. At the end I certainly was not an EMT... far from it. BUT, I did learn CPR (adult and infant), rudimentary treatment to stablize fractures, control bleeding, CPOD vs. congestive heart failure, when to wait and not move someone.... It was a good beginning - taught by people who knew... and cared.
