Realization that nothing can make one happy for the rest of their lives. Money - when one does not have enough one thinks that it will give happiness.
But the one who has money is unhappy because of other issues.
Same with family, possessions, beliefs, - every thing may give temporary happiness.
Only contentment and inner peaces can bring true and permanent happiness.
One or more persons can bring happiness to another for relatively a short time only.
Some of the things/people of happiness can bring about the most unhappiness later on to the same person/s.

Happiness, like all emotions, is a response to how we evaluate what we experience. You feel happy when you reach your goals. You seek happiness by acting towards what you expect will give you pleasure and avoids pain.
The pleasure/pain mechanism is a law of nature for every form of life. That's because without an automatic response to avoid pain and seek pleasure we would not be here talking today. That's what has kept evolution going, what has brought us here, and keeps us here.
But happiness is a much broader concept than pleasure. It implies that as we get to know ourselves, we select things in life we value more than other things, and we make an effort to achieve certain things more than others. We experience more than pleasure when we are successful at something we value very much. We experience a mild pleasure when we eat a cookie.
Although the concept of happiness is absolute, objective and universal in its essence, the degree of intensity of happiness can vary, not just from person to person, but from context to context. The same dinner that will give you great pleasure when it's served the first time, especially if you are hungry, will not give you the same pleasure, if it is served again five minutes later. That goes for everything in life.
Since I value responding to your question, it gives me some pleasure to answer you. Happiness is too strong a feeling to come from just the action of answering your question (sorry!). Happiness is the sum total of the accomplishments of my life. The persons I live with, my wife, my children, how well we communicate with each other, how good I do my job and how I am appreciated in doing it, how successful I expect to be in the activities I do everyday, how free I am to pursue what gives me pleasure, all these things combined and much more ARE happiness.

Different things make different people happy. I doubt that there's any "ultimate happy toy" (unless it's a Yak(pbut)).
No, you don't particularly make me either happy or unhappy.

Letting go of attachments, worries, vanity, desire, cravings. Hard to do, but I can guarantee the person who does must be blissful.
