I would seek vet treatment. My dog is going through this right now. I thought it was a simple yeast infection, but turns out, it IS a yeast infection. But only in one ear. He has a bacterial infection in the other.

There could be an underlying cause to the itching. And if you only treat the itching, your problem wont go away entirely. It will just quiet down.

Does the dog have any build-up in the ears? What does it look like? Does it smell like warm bread or does it just stink? E-mail me and i would be more than willing to help you out.

You should take him to your vet and have her clean the ears and look at any discharge that may be in there. Itchy ears can be caused by a lot of things--parasites (ear mites, ticks), yeast or bacterial infection, injury, foreign objects, etc. Your vet can do some tests and figure out what's wrong.

If you can see some discharge, you can gently clean it out with a paper towel. Don't stick any Qtips or anything in there though, since then the vet might not be able to make a thorough evaluation.

Good luck!

You need to find the source of discomfort, first. Buying drops when you don't know what is wrong could actually be harmful.
Check the dog's ears for any obvious signs of mites, etc.
Then take your dog to the Vet with what you notice is different - or even if you couldn't see anything.

The dog is in distress!
