Yes, but Jesus can. Hey, and I'm a Catholic, not a Evangelical or Fundamentalist. How about that!

Funny you should phrase it that way. I think I will tell you a story.
In the town where I was born, there was a boy I was completely infatuated with (me and every other girl in town). He had everything--he was the athletic god, the academic genius, and a total stud. He was a solid friend and he was very sincere. But due to some family issues that none of his friends knew about, he was also suicidal.
After one "failed attempt," the only people who responded to his obvious plea for help were the administrators of a religious youth group. They provided him with a place to go when things seemed unbearable, they befriended him, and they urged him to go to the youth group meetings where he discovered a place he felt like he belonged.
He openly admitted it was not the talks about God that "saved" him, nor was it the particular religion being practiced. It was the communitas created by the people practicing their religion and giving him a place to go.
You may argue that it was the people who saved him and not the religion, which is also true. But those people would not have acted as they did were it not for their religion.
This boy, who is now very much a man, just celebrated the birth of his first child--a beautiful baby boy. He and his (brilliant) wife are elated. I don't know if religion saved his mortal soul--that is no business of mine--but I do know that his wife, son, and his many friends are happy that religion saved his life.

My boy talking about works and quoting Eph 2:8-9, why don't you keep reading through verse 10 and tell me what that means. Those that think that Catholics believe that they work their way to heaven are sorely misunderstanding/mistaking that for truth.
"...for the good works that God has prepared beforehand, that we should live in them."
Don't you think that means that true believers, both Catholic and non, should engage in these works that God has put before us? Not for our own salvation, but because our hearts are turned toward him and yearn to serve him? Remember, saved by grace through faith, not BY faith alone.

Amen to that. After all, religions are manmade with useless sacraments. Faith in Christ and what He did at the cross is the only way to salvation(and true repentance)...not works (see Ep 2:8,9)

It's never been about religion but about relationship.
More specifically a relationship with Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior.

You are right, religion, a church, a denomination cannot bring salvation. Only through Christ and His atonement on the cross can His people be saved and enjoy eternity with Him forever. Salvation is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.

Yes... and I'm so glad there are other people on this earth that realize religion is not your ticket to some everlasting life. It's never about that.
